At the weekend Kathryn took part in The Oysterman Triathlon which may not have gone to plan but there is always a valuable lesson from each event.

Here is a little bit about the event from Kathryn - "My first last place and there were both men and ladies who finished in front of me who were in the group aged 70-79. But what did I learn from this experience is in the final stages of frozen shoulder a long swim helps- it was my first triathlon swim without my wetsuit and I didn’t drown, I touched 3 jellyfish without getting stung or freaking out and I was a long way from shore, over deep water and it didn’t bother me. But mainly what I learned was it really is about the taking part and personal challenges rather than where you finish. (I won’t be saying this next March when I set out to run the 20miles grizzly race in an attempt to beat my sisters time 😉)"

A slightly late post due to having no PC for a while here at the Practice but here are some fab photos from Cath's cycling holiday last month! She toured parts of Switzerland and the North of France, participating in cycling events and exploring.

Thank you for sharing Cath

Lower back feeling stiff and achy? The best thing you can do is to get your spine moving!

Here’s three simple seated stretches you can do to loosen up your back:

Seated lower back flexion – start sitting with your back straight on a firm chair with your feet hip-width apart and your hands resting on your knees. Tuck your chin into your chest and slowly slide your hands down your shins, rolling down vertebrae by vertebrae. When you get as far as you comfortably can, stop and reverse the movement until you’re upright again. Repeat 10 times, once or twice a day.

Seated cat-cow - start sitting with your back straight on a firm chair with your feet hip-width apart and your hands resting on your knees. Breathing out, slowly round your back, taking your chin down towards your chest. After 1-2 seconds, slowly arch the back to look up towards the ceiling. Only go as far as is comfortable – this shouldn’t feel painful. Repeat 10 times, once or twice a day.

Seated trunk rotation - start sitting with your back straight on a firm chair with your feet hip-width apart and your hands crossed over your chest. Keeping your hips facing forward, slowly rotate to the right, hold for 1-2 seconds, then return to facing forward. Slowly rotate to the left, hold for 1-2 seconds, then return to facing forward. Repeat 10 times on each side, once or twice a day.

If any of these movements cause pain or dizziness, stop the exercise immediately and discuss with your osteopath at your next appointment.

Save this post so that you can easily find it again if you need it!

A few weeks ago Manu and his eldest son had an off grid adventure where they were able to disconnect from their phones and spend quality time together.

They visited the Pyrenees, Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park. They spent their time climbing mountains, reaching 3100m (which is the highest Manu's son has been), swam in ice cold rivers and slept in bothies and refuges.

A brilliant time was had with some spectacular views and they can't wait to go again!
