One of our Inclusion Works Southeastern participants; Emily has recently participated in a Supported Placement within the Northern Ireland Assembly. Emily wanted to expand her knowledge of all things administration, and with support from Cedar’s Inclusion Works service, Emily applied for the opportunity through an NIUSE Expression of Interest form.
"I really enjoyed the time I spent in Stormont for work experience. It was very interesting being able to have a behind the scenes insight into what goes on within its walls and being able to understand the important role the Examiner of Statutory Rules department have in ensuring things run smoothly."
The administrative placement was one day per week, for a 5-week period within the Office of the Examiner of Statutory Rules. Whilst on placement, Emily contributed to planning and managing the work of the office through calendar management, assisting with emails, record keeping and organising ,as well as using and updating spreadsheets.
Cedar IW case officer, Shannen Donnelly was “delighted that Emily got the opportunity to spend 5 weeks at the NI assembly and now has first-hand experience in an administrative role and what this entails. Emily applied herself and made the most of this opportunity, developing knowledge and skills that will be invaluable when applying for paid employment”
Emily’s time with the NI Assembly has given her first-hand experience within an administration position, something she can take forward into potential roles in the future.
