There has been many ideas. But in the end, when faced with memories of lonely and painful postpartum, I realised it really comes down to one simple thing.

Mothering the mother is not just a mere slogan. It is what we are supposed to. If as humanity, we long to witness strong, healthy and happy children, we need to start with the mothers.

Mothers that are nourished, nurtured, deeply loved, taken care of and witnessed... will do the same for their babies.

The love really pours endlessly when the cup is adequately filled.

And in my work, I aim to be a waterfall directed at all the motherly cups.

There were many portals on the way here.
From very expressive child to incredibly emo teenage writer to full of art & activism young adult to theatre academic nerd to children's pastor trainee to mother to birthkeeper. And this journey just keeps unfolding.

Completing another solar return today and just feeling how fu***ng awesome I am to be fair. How much life I already got to explore. How many changes I embraced. How I keep shifting and growing and listening more and more to myself than other voices. How I grew, birthed and am raising a whole human being! How I loved all this so much that I decided to be alongside other women as they do it too.

Still wintering but drawn to making of all sorts behind the scenes. I spent last few days creating these little pots of goodness.
Chamomile & Lavender Calendula Balm and Rosemary & Geranium H**p Balm, both made natural ingredients, 1% essential oil dilution and lots of love.
There is more to come together with those, magnesium sprays and bath salts that are already on the shelf. All made with mothers in mind.

A few snippets from my last on call journey this year.
A few themes transpired in this portal: ones of tending, slowing, surrendering. Yet again, the power of birth became humbling. Through the passing of time & witnessing the power of a mother. Through the redemptive weight of each roar. Through the energy of life and death intertwined, unbreakable. That's how birth comes to be transformative for each soul involved. The baby who comes earthside, the mother who is reborn, the witnesses who are willing to face it.
A part of my heart stays with each family I am honoured to walk alongside. And so now, when another journey ends and begins - I withdraw into Winter and welcome the stillness.
Full of gratitude and love for this year of doula work & all mothers I cried, laughed and loved with.
I withdraw now to the heart & the hearth, where the personal transformation takes place, unstoppable.
I humbly welcome what is to come, "taking a break" and finding rest in the very place I am at, and not outside of it.

With tears of love for all that transpired this season, for the village around me without which I wouldn't be able to do this work, for my own little family and each family I witnessed being born...
