One of the smartest tricks the ‘wellness’ industry plays on us is the naturalistic fallacy.

The logical error of concluding that because something is natural, is it therefore beneficial, safe, or superior.

Modern medicine isn’t natural… but it’s better than plagues and diseases that wipe out whole populations. Don’t you think?

Natural can beautiful, but it doesn’t guarantee ‘safe’ or ‘better’.

Before you dismiss ‘unnatural’ - think carefully about just how much of your wellness relies on it.

And yes… I think a largely unprocessed, whole food, balanced diet is something most of us should be aiming for! Don’t straw-man me 😉

Hope that helps!

You’re broken. Something’s missing. You’re wrong. Here’s the secret.

One more guest. One more episode. You’ll crack the code.

But we never do.

I’m a total sucker for it. I’ve been deep down the podcast rabbit hole.

It’s taken me far too long to realise that I usually just feel more anxious after I’ve listened to one.

I rarely feel inspired. I just feel like I’ve been told about everything I’m not doing.

And then shock horror, they try to sell you their book.

Fed up of it to be honest.

I can see why diary of a ceo was investigated for misinformation. There seems to be no controls in place for regularly platforming muppets on one of the biggest shows in the world.

Mel Robbins, Lewis Howes, Jay Shetty, Steven Bartlett. They’re all the same.

It’s like a podcast cult of FOMO.

Any title goes when they’re trying to make you believe something is wrong. Clearly!

I’m Jackson, and if you’d like lots of free information that cuts through this nonsense, then you’re in the right place.

Stick around.

Whimsical frolic-maxxing. Innit.

Loving spending more time in the water with all the little creatures 🐸

There’s no substitute for that feeling of calm, peaceful contentedness after a cold dip.

Hope you’ve all had a great weekend 😊

‼️ PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD ‼️

What it actually is, and how to use it 🤔

Most coaches still think it’s just ‘add more weight’.

It might be, but that’s just one brush in the painter’s kit. In reality, we have 7 options to mix and match!

Load (Intensity) - The weight on the bar. Last week 60kg for 3x8, this week 62.5kg for 3x8. Could also be as a % of 1RM, or RPE/RIR.

Volume - Total sets and reps. e.g. Last week 3 sets of 8, this week 4 sets of 10 at the same weight.

Frequency - How often you train a muscle in a given time period e.g. Squatting once a week becomes twice a week.

Density (Rest Interval) - The amount of work done in a given period of time. E.g. Same session, rest between sets drops from 3 minutes to 90 seconds.

Tempo - Speed of the rep. E.g. slower eccentric than last week.

Exercise Selection - Complexity & specifcity to your goals.

Range of Motion - How far you move. E.g. Squat to parallel progresses to more depth.

The best coaches use the right tools, at the right time, in the context of where their client has come from, where they are now, and where they are going.

I hope that helps 🫡

🌟 CLIENT SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Meet Alex! What you need to know ⬇️
Alex is a senior director for a regional non-profit, loves dogs (go and check out !!), is a self professed nature nerd, enjoys working hard at the gym, has a first class allotment and with her limited downtime can be found crocheting beautiful jumpers and hats!

Alex has been making amazing progress training down for over 2 years now, but asked for my help to take her nutrition to the next level!

What was the aim?
➡️ Lighter & leaner - below 60kg.
➡️ Increase power to weight ratio.
➡️ Achieve first bodyweight chin up.
➡️ Build confidence.
➡️ Continue to build muscle.
➡️ Feel educated & empowered for the future.
➡️ Fuel properly for training

What was the focus?
- Education first approach through regular checkins.
- Empowered to make own decisions.
- Tracking to learn & build certainty.
- Managing the 5S’ of weight loss - sleep, stress, steps, satiety, structure.
- Reefeeds, breaks, reverse diets.
- Maintain without tracking.

The result?
> visibly leaner
> stronger across the board
> 5kg down (11 lbs)
> 3 bodyweight chin-ups

Amazing work 👏

Here’s what Alex said about the process:

“I started working with Jackson because I wanted to really focus on body composition but still make sure I was fuelling myself properly for training.

I’d been training consistently for about two years, but nutrition was always the bit I never quite got on top of.

Working with Jackson gave me a really clear focus. In a short space of time, I saw a shift in my body composition, and even though I was in a calorie deficit, I was still getting stronger.

By focusing on the basics as well, I managed to still hit PBs and even got my first chin‑ups.

I’ve now been at maintenance for the last two months. I’m not tracking anymore and I haven’t gained any weight, which really comes down to the skills and habits I built while working with Jackson.”

As Bruce Hornsby once said…

“that’s just the way it is, some things will never change”

Steven Bartlett can optimise all he wants. But what does he do when everything is ‘perfect’ and things still go to sh*t? 🤔

In my video on Monday I said we’d already polarised the debate around the reaction to his video…

Because sure, prepare as well as you can for what’s in front of you. Do what is reasonable. Be thorough.

But that’s never a guarantee it will go to plan.

Sometimes that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. We can explain everything.

And as much as I love the idea that we are guided by the science and data, but lead with intuition… we’re still going to be presented with outcomes that don’t make sense.

I suppose this could have been a 5 second video really:
“Sometimes you prepare well and it still doesn’t go to plan. That’s ok. Move on and try again”
