*HPV vaccination – protecting against cancer*

A recent BBC report shows the HPV vaccine is already saving lives, with cervical cancer deaths in young women now close to zero in those vaccinated early.
However, around 1 in 4 young people are still unvaccinated and remain at risk.
✅ Safe, effective and offered to both boys and girls
✅ Free on the NHS – including catch‑up up to age 25
If your child has been invited, please take up the offer. If you missed it, contact the practice to arrange an appointment.

🔵 DNA Appointments 🔵

During May there have been 134 missed appointments. This is an improvement on last year's appointments during the same period, namely 1.11% reduction, however we could do better with your support. You will receive a text reminder which also includes a link to cancel your appointment. If you have opted out of the text messaging service, it is really important that you contact the surgery if you are no longer able to attend appointments so we can utilise this for another patient who may need it.

We understand that things happen and people sometimes forget or are unable to attend. However, repeatedly missing appointments without telling us has a serious impact on access for other patients and on practice workload.

We monitor frequent DNAs . Patients who repeatedly miss appointments without notice , despite reminders and warnings, will be asked to register with another GP practice due to the breakdown in the doctor–patient relationship. By cancelling in good time, you help us offer that appointment to another patient and support safer, more timely care for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation.

💙💜💚 Learning Disability Week 2026 💚💜💙

📅 15–21 June 2026

This year's theme is "Do You See Me?"

Learning Disability Week is a chance to celebrate the achievements, talents, and contributions of people with learning disabilities while raising awareness of the barriers many still face every day.
Everyone deserves to be:

🤝 Included
Let's work together to create communities where everyone feels respected, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Join us this week by starting conversations, challenging stereotypes, and championing inclusion.

Together, we can build a society where everyone is recognised for who they are and what they bring.

On Friday, we met with local politicians Lindsey Farnsworth, Labour MP for Amber Valley, and Jonathan Davies, MP for Mid Derbyshire. We discussed some local challenges and explored how, with government support, general practice can continue providing outstanding, safe, and high-quality care both locally and across the NHS.

Today, Debbie Allen, PCN Clinical Services Manager, met with our Patient Participation Group (PPG) Chairs from each of our four member practices.

The session provided a valuable opportunity to share ideas, highlight the fantastic work already taking place within our PPGs, and strengthen collaboration across the network.

Discussions focused on several key areas, including:

Neighbourhood Health and strengthening community-based care
Our early cancer funding initiative, aimed at improving screening uptake and early diagnosis.
Tackling health inequalities within our local population
Preparations for Belper PCN’s upcoming engagement with local politicians next week

These conversations play an important role in ensuring patient voices continue to shape the services we deliver across Belper PCN.
We would like to thank our PPG Chairs for their ongoing commitment, insight, and dedication to improving patient care within our community.
