You’ve just spent an hour or more talking to your homeopath...You’ve talked about your main complaint, your sleep, energy, appetite, emotions, things that make you feel better or worse.. And then your consultation finishes and your homeopath says:

“I’d like some time to work on your case.”

Why? Because sometimes the real work begins after the consultation ends. A homeopath may have pages of notes to go through. They may need to look at which symptoms are most characteristic, choose appropriate rubrics in the repertory, compare several possible remedies and then return to the Materia Medica to study them more closely.

Sometimes one remedy stands out quickly. Other times, two or three remedies may look very similar at first, and the homeopath needs to understand the subtle differences between them. And sometimes something you mentioned almost casually during your consultation turns out to be an important clue.

Homeopathy is based on individualisation, so the aim isn’t simply:

Headache = this remedy
Anxiety = that remedy
Eczema = another remedy

The homeopath is trying to understand your individual symptom picture and find the remedy that most closely corresponds with it within homeopathic practice. So if your homeopath doesn’t immediately reach for a bottle at the end of your appointment, it doesn’t mean they don’t know what to do.

Sometimes it means they want to go back to the books, study your case and give it the time it deserves. And yes… those enormous homeopathy books on the shelf really do get used!😂
