I thought that this Clematis was dead 2 years ago, the slugs destroyed it, nothing left. Last year it came back, this year it’s amazing. It just shows that if we don’t give up we can achieve great things. I appreciate some will know this but we gain new followers all the time. When I started this company almost 9 years ago I didn’t know if it would work, I’d worked as a manager for Drive Devilbiss/Medical for 7 years, had a great time and everything was great… Then they made us all redundant. I was angry at the way they treated us all, just a week or 2 before we’d been put up in a nice hotel so we could look at a new company they’d purchased so it was a bolt from the blue. I went to Clearwell Mobility, well that was an experience and I lasted 4 months there, I didn’t like the way their customers were treated and the prices charged. I set up Active Days Mobility with my car and a few basic tools, I had no money to advertise my service so I used Facebook and the local Friday Ad as it was free. My partner Jo kindly lent me the money for my first Van and I gradually built the business from there. I got a workshop after about 1 year or so shared with someone who sold used mobility scooters, they don’t operate to the same standards as I so I decided during the pandemic to get a shop. It was a mad moment, I was chatting to someone and I just decided to look for a shop 🤣. I take less a month from the business than most of my staff get paid. I Have a great team now, that's the hardest part, finding the right staff.
So, if you have an idea, go for it, don’t waste time thinking about it and don’t give up, you’ll have doubts and doubters but go with your gut. I asked a company to design my logo, thankfully I never listened to them, Bay Designs told me people wouldn’t take it seriously as it was ‘too gimmicky’, people often comment on how much they like it.
