Birchwood Counselling

Birchwood Counselling I am a qualified counsellor and registered with the BACP, offering a safe and supportive space to explore life's challenges.

I am a psychotherapist that has qualified as an integrative counsellor, This means I have different theories to
draw upon to ensure that I work with you as an individual. I am
Person Centered, so I will be trying to understand what it is like to be
you. I use Gestalt, paying attention to your body and what’s
happening in the here and now. I also use Transactional Analysis,
which lets us explore your patterns of relating with other people

Counselling provides a confidential, non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

A trained professional helps you make sense of overwhelming experiences, develop practical coping stratagies, and find your own solutions to personal challenges.

Counselling supports you in several specific ways: Understanding Yourself: It allows you to untangle complex emotions and identify unhelpful patterns in how you think or act.
Navigating Life Events: Counsellors provide dedicated support through major stressors like bereavement, relationship breakdowns, or chronic illness.
Developing Coping Skills: Sessions help you manage difficult emotions like anger, grief, guilt, or anxiety and build resilience for things you cannot change.
Improving Well-being: By addressing issues like low self-esteem, stress, or depression, therapy helps you cultivate a more positive self-image and improve your overall quality of life.

Checking in with yourself means pausing to intentionally tune into your current physical sensations, emotions, and mental state. It is an essential practice of self-care that helps prevent burnout, manage daily stress, and identify exactly what you need to recharge.

To stop comparing yourself, you must shift your focus away from seeking external validation and toward your own personal values and growth.
Here are actionable, specific ways to break the habit of comparing yourself to others: Swap Self-Comparison for Self-Compassion: Never compare your flaws or worst days to the best, carefully curated angles or achievements of someone else. Limit Comparison Triggers: Actively unfollow or mute accounts on social media that make you feel insecure. Focus on Internal Values: Ask yourself what specific feeling you want, rather than what someone else has. If someone’s life inspires you, try to use it as motivation for your own. Practice Gratitude: Shift your focus from what you lack to what you have by writing down or reflecting on things you are grateful for each day. Keep an Achievement Record: Keep a physical log or folder of your own accomplishments and milestones to remind yourself of how far you have come. Compare With Your Past Self: Rather than measuring your worth against others, look back at how far you have grown compared to younger versions of yourself.

🌿 Self-Care Isn't Selfish — It's Essential 🌿

In the busyness of daily life, it's easy to put everyone else's needs before our own. But self-care isn't a luxury or a reward—it's a vital part of maintaining emotional wellbeing.

Taking time to rest, set boundaries, move your body, connect with supportive people, or simply pause for a few moments can help reduce stress and improve resilience.

Remember: you cannot pour from an empty cup.

If you're finding life overwhelming, reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Counselling can provide a safe space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and challenges while helping you develop healthier ways to care for yourself.

💚 What is one thing you can do for yourself today?

Letting go of people pleasing is a journey from seeking external validation to reclaiming your own power. It starts with recognising that your needs matter as much as anyone else's, and practicing the art of saying "no" without guilt.

People pleasing is often driven by a fear of rejection, conflict, or abandonment. Constant compliance can also create resentment.

Moving away from this draining habit requires actionable steps, emotional awareness, and a shift in mindset.

June is Men’s Mental Health Month 💙

Men’s mental health matters—every single day.
Too often, men feel pressure to stay silent, to “push through,” or to carry everything alone. But the truth is:
it’s okay to not be okay.
Talking doesn’t make you weak—it shows courage.
Reaching out isn’t a burden—it’s a step toward healing.
Let’s challenge the stigma together and create space where men feel safe to open up, be heard, and get the support they deserve.
If you’re struggling, you’re not alone. Support is here. 🤝
