💜 Could you be entitled to help with the cost of home care?
Thinking about arranging care for yourself or a loved one can feel overwhelming — especially when you're worried about the cost. 🏡
But don't assume you have to pay for everything yourself.
Depending on your circumstances, you may be entitled to financial help towards your care.
💷 What are the capital thresholds?
For 2026/27 in England:
🔹 Under £14,250
Your capital is generally not taken into account when calculating the capital contribution, although your income is still considered.
🔹 Between £14,250 and £23,250
You may qualify for financial support, but your capital is taken into account when working out what you can afford to contribute.
🔹 Over £23,250
You will generally be expected to fund your own care, although you can still ask your council for a care needs assessment and, in some circumstances, councils have discretion for care provided at home.
💜 Other help may also be available
✨ Direct Payments - If you qualify for council support, you may be able to receive a personal budget/direct payment to help arrange your own care.
✨ Attendance Allowance - If you're over State Pension age and need help because of a disability or health condition, you may be able to claim £76.70 or £114.60 per week, depending on your needs.
✨ NHS Continuing Healthcare - Some people with significant health needs may qualify for care funded by the NHS.
✨ Local Authority funding -Your local council can carry out a care needs assessment and financial assessment to see whether you qualify for help towards your care costs.
The best place to start is by asking your local council for a Care Needs Assessment and financial assessment.
