Three months ago, I unlocked the door to Shanti for the first class.

Since then, hundreds of people have rolled out a mat, attended a workshop, shared a conversation, or found some space to breathe here.

And almost every week someone says, “Bideford really needed this.”

And that’s exactly why I started it!

When I moved to North Devon in 2022, I found an incredible community of yoga teachers, therapists and wellbeing practitioners.

What I couldn’t find was a dedicated space where people could regularly come together to practise, learn, connect and support their own and each other’s wellbeing. As much as I told myself I could make do, it really felt like something was missing.

Before Shanti I spent years teaching in village halls, community spaces and fitness centres all over Devon, and I’m deeply grateful for them. I even set up a bell tent in my garden and hosted many beautiful events there during the warmer months, but it was exposed to the wild North Devon winds and impossible to use year round. Last summer’s storms eventually destroyed it. And maybe that was the push I needed….

The seed was already planted, but as soon as I dared to start feeding and nurturing the idea, the more I knew it was something I had to do.

The word “Shanti” means peace in Sanskrit, and from the beginning my vision was simple: to create a welcoming home for people in Bideford to find a slice of that in whatever way feels most meaningful to them.

Three months in, we’re still growing and evolving, but already we’ve created so much more than I ever could’ve dreamed.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their own practices, attended a class, booked an event, recommended us to a friend, shared a post, or simply cheered us on behind the scenes. Your support means the world 🫶

Most of us spend our days in a very yang way of being. Moving quickly, holding tension, pushing through, often without realising how much we need the opposite to restore balance.

Yin yoga offers us that opposite. A slower, quieter practice that works into the deeper layers of the body, including the connective tissues and meridian lines, while also supporting the nervous system to settle our emotional state and reset.

Quietening everything and allowing space for less.

M e n o p a u s e

A word that historically has filled many women with dread.

I have felt completely overwhelmed at the thought of all the possible symptoms, all of the conflicting info and opinions, and the lack of readily available support structures in place.

I’m a big believer that knowledge is power, so in my early 40s I started educating myself around it.

I read books, sifted through a lot of articles and studies, and took a specialist yoga for menopause training with supported by , and now in my mid-forties i feel so much more equipped to deal with whatever else this journey holds.

Though it’s early days for me, I actually feel quite positive about it because I know there’s lots I can do to ease the transition, and that I don’t have to do it alone.

I want you to feel this way too, so if you’re feeling overwhelmed, confused or generally lost about this phase, come and join this yoga for menopause workshop and connect with other women who are entering or already on this journey.

In this 2hr intro session, we’ll explore:
- what’s actually happening in the body
- common symptoms and what’s causing them

I’ll explain why stress is public enemy number 1 when it comes to this life phase, and guide us through some breathwork, meditation and yoga practices to help tackle it, and you’ll have a chance to chat and share the experience with other women in a calm and supportive space.

We can’t wait to return to our fabulous farmhouse in the Glastonbury countryside for a long weekend of soul-nourishing practices, indigent spa time, exploring and just ‘being’ in a beautiful setting.

Last year’s trip was fully booked within 4 weeks and the guests left feeling: ✧ connected ✧ inspired ✧ nourished ✧ relaxed ✧ grateful ✧ full ✧ loved.

This time we’ve added an extra night and we have an intentionally smaller group so it will feel even more spacious.

Prices start at £675pp all inclusive of 3 night’s accommodation (shared or private rooms available) twice daily yoga and surrounding mindful practices, delicious vegetarian food prepared by a private chef, access to spa, and a trip to chalice well & peace gardens.
