When it comes to selling yourself to potential employers, your CV and LinkedIn profile are crucial. With 850 million members on LinkedIn, it's more important than ever to leverage your profile as a powerful tool for your accountancy career. Here are some tips to make your LinkedIn profile stand out.

Your LinkedIn profile offers unique advantages. If properly created, it will likely appear on the first page of Google search results, unlike your CV. It provides interactive and engaging insights about you as a potential recruit.

Start by optimising your headline. It's often the first thing recruiters see, so make it count. Use up to 220 characters to paraphrase what you do. Additionally, LinkedIn now allows you to add your preferred pronouns to your profile, demonstrating your commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Include a professional photo. Profiles with professional photographs receive 14 times more views. Take advantage of today's phone technology and ask a colleague or friend to take a high-quality picture in good lighting. A head and shoulders shot with a smile and appropriate business attire will make the best impact.

Ensure your contact details are visible, including a mobile number and a professional email address. Use a professional URL and consider linking to a blog where you share industry-related knowledge.

Utilise the "Featured" section to showcase any papers you've written, conference presentations, or work-related videos. This will help you stand out from the crowd.

In the "About" section, don't simply copy and paste sections from your CV. Use it to capture people's attention with relevant information about yourself, your skills, and your abilities. Highlight the value you can bring to a company and how you can solve their problems.

Take advantage of the additional sections on your profile, such as licenses and certifications, courses, recommendations, and work experience. Include details about your education, volunteer activities, and any relevant accomplishments.

Share and engage with content to demonstrate your connection and interests. LinkedIn allows you to share articles, images, and videos to communicate your personal brand.

List up to 50 skills, focusing on the most important ones. Highlight any in-demand skills to make yourself more appealing to recruiters.

Collect endorsements and recommendations from your contacts. Social proof is influential, so don't be afraid to ask for validation of your work.

Finally, complete your profile in full. Include presentations, videos, and links to papers you've written. A comprehensive profile shows that you pay attention to detail and take your career seriously.

We’re proud that many of our clients come back to us repeatedly over the years.

Not because recruitment is easy.

But because consistency matters.

Understanding a business properly takes time:
• culture
• leadership style
• growth plans
• team dynamics
• hiring challenges

The more a recruiter understands your business, the stronger the hiring outcomes become.

Recruitment is most effective when it’s built on long-term relationships — not one-off transactions.

Businesses spend huge amounts of time focused on attraction.

Far fewer focus properly on onboarding and retention.

But candidates decide very quickly whether they’ve made the right move.

Poor onboarding, unclear expectations, and lack of leadership support are still major reasons new hires leave early.

Recruitment success isn’t measured by acceptance.

It’s measured by long-term impact and retention.

Hiring well is only the beginning.

53% of CFOs now own digital transformation in their organisation. 42% are responsible for capital allocation. 40% oversee risk management.

The CFO role hasn't just expanded. It has fundamentally changed in nature.

Wolters Kluwer's 2026 Future Ready CFO Report — a survey of 1,672 finance leaders — describes it clearly: the CFO has moved from scorekeeper to performance orchestrator.

And for UK finance leaders, the ambition is even higher than the global average:

· 63% of UK CFOs identify finance transformation as a strategic priority — vs 52% globally

· 90% want to co-lead digital transformation initiatives

· 93% place greater emphasis on continuous learning than their global peers

But here's the tension nobody talks about enough.

The orchestrator role only works if the finance function around you has evolved at the same pace.

27% of CFOs cite resistance to change as their biggest barrier. Only 46% report healthy tension in their leadership teams. Just 40% say they have sufficient debate.

Ambition without the right team is aspiration — not transformation.

This week's newsletter explores what the shift really demands, where most finance functions are falling short, and five questions every CFO should be asking right now.

💬 It’s not all about the money anymore.

We’re hearing it every day from finance professionals — flexibility, growth, and strong leadership matter just as much as pay.

If businesses want to attract (and keep) great people, they need to create workplaces where development and balance come first.

Applying for a new accounting role can be daunting, but with the right preparation, you can boost your confidence and impress the hiring manager. Here are some tips to help you excel in your next accountant interview.

Practice role-play interviews with someone acting as the interviewer. This realistic approach allows you to fine-tune your answers and identify areas that need improvement.

Boost your confidence before the interview by visualizing yourself succeeding and using breathing techniques to calm your nerves. Say positive affirmations to foster a positive mindset.

During the interview, maintain confident body language by sitting back in your chair with a straight back and using hand gestures to enhance your communication. Avoid excessive fidgeting or touching your hair or face.

Be a great listener by nodding when the interviewer speaks and waiting for them to finish before providing your answer. Focus on building rapport rather than trying to impress with every statement.

Approach the interview as a conversation to connect with the interviewer authentically. Being honest and transparent will convey confidence while trying to be someone you're not is easily noticeable.

If you're preparing for an upcoming interview or looking for a new accounting role, BTG Recruitment can assist you. We offer help with CVs, interview preparation, and job search. Contact us on 0115 960 7000 or email us on [email protected]
