Can you believe it! The month of July has flown by and what a crammed packed month it has been at Five Rise! The residents sang their hearts out with a Everly brothers sing a long and karaoke afternoon and Marion from musical moments provided a fantastic afternoon and the theme was Holidays! The residents enjoyed listening to one of the residents playing songs from the musicals and some residents went on a trip outing to Ball Grove Park and with the weather being so nice they had cake and tea at the side of the lake. The home celebrated Holiday at home week with a sing a long sea side special, fish and chip surprise, holiday word search’s and a Hawaiian mocktail afternoon. Another exciting and busy moth for the residents at Five Rise! Some residents have celebrated their special birthdays and tucked into home made birthday cupcakes. We have had entertainment from Ukelele Henry, a fair ground organ came and the weather held out so the residents could sit outside to listen. The mobile ice cream parlour made its way around the home during the hot weather to cool the residents down and was thoroughly enjoyed. The football World Cup has been celebrated with a big football party and residents played their own game with a massive inflatable ball! We also had a penalty shoot out which was very competitive. The residents have been busy at the gardening club picking the strawberries for Wimbledon and look how big the giant spring onions have grown. Residents have also been nurturing the plants and flower beds giving them extra water during the mini heatwave. The residents also enjoyed the ladies day at our very own Ascott and of course the men joined in too all wearing fancy hats for the occasion. Now it’s time for the strawberries and Wimbledon……..

Here at Five Rise we celebrated the beginning of May with a ninetieth birthday with entertainment from Wilsden Community Choir which was brilliant! Then the residents did some weaving with our new weaving boards arranging some fabulous colourful patterns. We also celebrated David Attenborough 100th birthday what an icon!! The flags were out and female vocalist Emma James who was dressed up in RAF uniform entertained the residents on VE Day, the residents sang and danced along to the popular 1940’s songs. We had a visit from the North Rast Producers who did a musical show called when I’m cleaning windows which was such fun with plenty of comedy. The residents enjoyed a Roy Orbison sing a long with some residents sing through the microphone. The trip to Bradford industrial museum was thoroughly enjoyed by all who went and brought back a lot of memories with the old trams and machinery. The residents and staff tucked into a picnic which was very filling before returning back to the home.

How wonderful that Spring has now arrived and the residents at Five Rise have had some fantastic trip outings with fine weather. A trip on board the canal barge The Spirit of Endeavour was a real treat with residents sitting at the front of the boat as well as inside admiring the beautiful countryside. A picnic was made up by the kitchen which was ate on our travels and the staff onboard the Endeavour were amazing. The next trip outing was to memory lane Cottingley for a very tasty cream tea and the residents made Easter baskets to bring back to the home.
