The obsession is not always the first problem.

Often there is a moment before it where the mind moves from what you actually sensed into a story about what might have happened.

That bridge matters.

Because if you only focus on the final fear, you can miss the thought that pulled you into it in the first place.

Carers Week 2026 provides an opportunity to celebrate Carers, raise awareness, and inspire action to create more supportive environments for those who dedicate their time and energy to caring for others.

Most people don’t need an “insomnia protocol” - they need a few good sleep anchors.

But if you’re doing all the sensible things and still lying awake most nights, it’s often not a motivation problem… it’s insomnia (and it responds best to a specific approach called CBT-I).

I’ve written a new blog: CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I): what actually works and why — including the strategies with the strongest evidence.

For everyone else (occasional sleep wobble), here are a few quick wins:
- Keep your wake-up time roughly consistent (even after a bad night)
- Get daylight in your eyes early if you can
- Caffeine: aim to stop by late morning/early afternoon
- Create a “wind-down cue” (same 10–20 mins each night)
- If you can’t sleep, get out of bed and do something boring in dim light

If you want the full step-by-step plan for persistent insomnia, the blog is linked in my bio / on my website.

OCD often doesn’t begin with the big scary thought.

It often starts with a quieter thought that makes the fear feel relevant.

Maybe I missed a spot.
Maybe I wouldn’t know.
Maybe something went wrong.

That small thought can act like a bridge from reality into imagination and by the time the bigger obsession arrives, it already feels believable.

A lot of OCD recovery is learning to spot the thought that carried you into the spiral.

If you’ve found me through my TikTok videos, this is why I care so much about calling out bad advice.

I’ve worked in mental health since 2006 and used CBT since 2011. I specialise in OCD and PTSD, and a big part of what pulled me towards this work was seeing how much “help” actually keeps people stuck.

With OCD, bad advice often sounds reassuring, sensible and kind — but can quietly feed the loop.

With trauma, I got fed up of seeing people wait and wait for therapy while still living with the impact of what happened.
That’s a big part of why I set up my own company. I’m particular about therapy. I want it to feel collaborative, compassionate, tailored and actually useful- with a shared understanding of what’s going on and whether the work is helping.

I use CBT, ACT, CFT, EMDR and DBT skills because sometimes the right shift from a different model can make all the difference.

Follow for honest, evidence-based mental health content that packs a punch to your distress.

Online therapy is not second best.

It can be deeply effective, but it does work best when you have privacy, a stable connection, and a space where you can speak freely. đź’»

The real win? Less travel, more flexibility, and easier access to support when life is already full.

If you’ve been wondering whether online CBT could work for you, send us a message and let’s talk it through.

One of the biggest shifts in OCD recovery is realising that something can feel urgent, meaningful, and unresolved without actually being a real problem to solve.
