It’s been four days since we announced our campaign to protect the Halescroft Centre from going to auction on 10th September by nominating it as an Asset of Community Value (ACV).

What’s happened since has been genuinely heartwarming. Our feeds are full of neighbours, parents, professionals and friends sharing the campaign poster. Some of the supporting letters have been so thoughtful they’ve genuinely made our eyes sparkle.

But something interesting is happening.
The number of petition signatures is rising… just not in proportion to the number of people expressing support. And it’s made us reflect.

Saving a building from unknown redevelopment and keeping it available for community use feels like an easy “yes”. The site is huge. It has real potential. It could host inclusive activities, youth programmes, wellbeing sessions, family support, and so much more. It could be a space that strengthens the neighbourhood for decades.

So why the gap between support and signatures?

We think it’s because people often assume “someone else will sign”, or “someone else will act”. But community spaces only survive when we act together, visibly, and early.

If you’ve supported the idea, shared the post, or felt that spark of “this matters”, please take the next step. Your signature isn’t just a tick box; it’s a voice saying our neighbourhood deserves spaces that bring people together.

Halescroft has potential. Let’s not lose it!

❤ SEND Socials are trying to save Halescroft Centre. After 8 years of not having a home, we want to finally build one.❤

For years, SEND families in Birmingham have been fighting for safe, accessible spaces. Places where our children can be themselves, where parents feel supported, and where community isn’t an afterthought but the foundation.

For eight years, we’ve carried our community from borrowed rooms, hired halls, loaned spaces and we’ve made it work. We are genuinely grateful for every venue that has opened its doors to us. But oh, how we would love a place to call our own. A place where we can do more, for more of the time. A place where we can finally set up permanent, purpose‑built spaces for our families.

Eight years of adapting, lifting, shifting, making do, and creating magic wherever we could… because our families deserve connection and safety even when we didn’t have a home.

And in that time, we’ve grown into an award‑winning, community‑led organisation, providing thousands of activity spaces every year 👏

But our families deserve more.

The Halescroft Centre is one of the last remaining buildings in our neighbourhood that could become a dedicated SEND Community Hub. A permanent home designed around inclusion, sensory needs, accessibility, and belonging.

A home where:
❤ Children can play without judgement
❤ Young people can grow in confidence
❤ Parents and carers can breathe, connect and feel understood
❤ Our community can finally have stability

We’ve waited eight years for a chance like this.
We cannot lose it to redevelopment.

That’s why we’re launching our petition to protect Halescroft through an Asset of Community Value (ACV) nomination. This is our opportunity - maybe our only one - to secure a future home for SEND Socials and the families we serve.

If you believe SEND families deserve a place built for them…
If you’ve ever felt the impact of not having a safe, accessible space…
If you want to help us finally create a home after eight long years…

Please sign and share our petition. Your voice genuinely matters.

❤ Week 6 Round‑Up. And That’s a Wrap… Well, Almost! ❤

Week 6 brought our summer delivery to a brilliant close, or at least to what should have been the close! Across our final scheduled week, we offered 225 spaces, made possible through a mix of funded sessions (with huge thanks to the Bring it on Brum HAF programme and National Lottery Community Fund) alongside several community‑based opportunities that helped us finish strong.

We’ve learnt some fantastic new skills, from designing our own t‑shirts and caps, to making jewellery, and personalising canvas bags and pencil cases. Creativity has definitely been the theme of the week!

Energy levels were high too, with an interactive games session and an exclusive soft play takeover giving everyone a chance to run, jump, climb and play lots of football!

And water… well, water featured in more ways than one! We enjoyed two swimming sessions, took a jaunt up the canal aboard narrowboat Cecilia where we experienced rain and sunshine. Heavy rain and storms meant our outdoor forest school session had to be cancelled but thankfully not lost. It’s been rescheduled for tomorrow, which now becomes our new final summer delivery date.

A very special thank you to Maple House School who have welcomed us so warmly and allowed us to run so many of our sessions at their site this summer and beyond. Their support, flexibility and kindness make a huge difference to our families and to the success of our programme.

A huge thank you to every child, parent, carer, volunteer and partner who joined us throughout Week 6 and across the whole summer. We've had an absolute blast! 😍

What an excellent session at Maple House School today. This was advertised as a bottle decorating activity, but it turned into so much more than that. Children got stuck into designing canvas bags and pencil cases with fabric pens, created their own bracelets and keyrings at our jewellery making station, and decorated colourful bookmarks to take home.

The focus, imagination and creativity in the room were wonderful to see. Everyone poured so much personality into their designs and the results were fantastic!

Today marks the end of our The National Lottery Community Fund sessions for the summer. Their support has allowed us to offer a wide range of inclusive activities for SEND families, the kind of opportunities that wouldn’t be possible without this funding. We’re incredibly grateful for their belief in what we do and the difference it makes to our community.

It’s also our final day at Maple House School , whose warm welcome and brilliant facilities have helped make these sessions such a success. We’re truly thankful for the partnership and the space they’ve created for our families to feel comfortable, included and able to thrive.

We’ve already been asked how many sleeps until we’re back… and we can’t wait either (October half term if you're wondering!)❤

✨ Sensory Grab Bags available at our sessions! ✨

If things start to feel a bit loud, busy or overwhelming, you’re welcome to borrow one of our Sensory Grab Bags.

Inside you’ll find ear defenders and a handful of fidgets. Little tools to help you wiggle, wobble, breathe and reset!

If you need one, just help yourself or ask a SEND Socials representative. These will be available at all of our sessions whether we're onsite or out in the community.

It may have been week 5 of the holidays, but the energy levels definitely didn’t subside! ☀️

We had a fantastic day with the animals from feature experience our young people the chance to learn about and handle some new — and sometimes slightly scary! — creatures. 🐍🕷️

There were snakes, tarantulas and a fluffy bunny! Because when it comes to our holiday programme, there really is that much variety! 🐰

Alongside our animal experience, we had our usual games and outdoor activities, creating a great balance of learning, movement and opportunities to simply have fun in a way that works for everyone.

We also headed out for a day trip to , where the group took on tree climbing, zip wiring and archery. 🌳🏹

The assault course and ropes were, as always, a huge hit, but what made the day even more special was seeing families meeting new people, building connections and making new friendships.

It was one of those wholesome days that reminds us why these opportunities matter so much — new experiences, new challenges, lots of laughter and a community growing together.

And to top it all off… the sun kept shining for us all afternoon! ☀️

With thanks to Bring it on Brum

Week 5, you were a good one! ❤️

What a fantastic creative session today! The kids turned plain T‑shirts and summer caps into full‑on fashion statements using embroidery pens, stencils, aplique badges and even a sewing machine to add a professional touch!

The results? Next level impressive! From colourful patterns to personalised artwork, every design was totally unique and full of personality.

Huge shout out to our young designers, your creativity blew us away!

A big thank you to one of our parents who spotted lots of plain caps for a bargain and bought them for us to turn into something fantastic, they really were appreciated and looked amazing!

We can’t believe we’ve reached the last week already, but there’s still so much fun to be had as we wrap up an incredible summer together.

There are still some spaces available, so don’t forget to check out our website for a bit of last minute fun before the holidays end.

Week 5 round-up!

We’ve just finished an absolutely brilliant Week 5 of our Summer Delivery, and it was a big one. Across the week we created 267 spaces for children and young people, spread across a whopping 15 sessions!

We’ve enjoyed animals (some we visited, some visited us!), made music with drumming, and got stuck into a whole range of sports including swimming, aerial hoop, cricket and bowling.

We’ve played retro games out in the community, had a giant games takeover at Maple House School, completed an outdoor escape room, and burnt off plenty of energy during our outdoor adventure afternoon.

A huge thank you to every child, parent, carer, volunteer and partner who joined us!

Now… onto Week 6, our final week of summer ❤
