Something as simple as sending a text, a photo together from your memories or even a song you think they might like. It doesn't have to be a conversation you feel awkward about.
There are plenty resources online with how to start a conversation about su***de. are great and available 24/7 all year. They can help you start the conversation and if you are feeling suicidal yourself they can also help.
If you do have thoughts of harming yourself please get help immediately- go to A&E, call 111, speak to your GP or someone you trust.
