The school year is nine months. You need a hair strategy that lasts not just September.

Most people book braids a week before school and then panic along the way because they haven't planned for refreshes and maintenance.
Here's the strategy that actually works.

The nine-month plan:

September: Fresh braids. Invest in something that lasts 6-8 weeks. Not four weeks or you'll need to refresh constantly.

October half-term: Refresh or switch styles. Your braids are ready for change and your hair needs assessment.

December: Holiday braids. Plan for a versatile style that can work for different activities

January: Refresh and reset. Post-holiday refresh appointment.

February, Valentines: Switch styles again. Locs? Twists? Something that will get the sparks flying maybe?

March or May: Continue rotating every 6-8 weeks. Never going longer than 8 weeks in one style.

June onwards: Adjust for summer activities and what your hair needs.

The core principle:
You're not trying to keep one style the entire year. You're rotating or refreshing styles every 6-8 weeks. This protects your scalp, prevents build-up, allows your hair to breathe and keeps you from getting bored.

Each refresh is an appointment at Tete Hazel. Plan for that. Budget for that. It's an investment that saves you from hair loss and breakage.

You're seeing breakage you didn't see in June. Your ends feel rough. And your hair is shorter than it was. Good thing is we’re here to help.

If you follow the guide in the pictures here’s your repair timeline:

Week one - Trim and assess. Protein treatment if breakage is significant.
Week two - Deep condition twice this week.
Week three onwards - Protective styling only. No heat. Minimal manipulation.

By week five your hair will start recovering.
Remember though. This isn't magic. It’s a process.

Your scalp’s rhythm slows down as the weather cools. So your care routine needs a full switch-up too to keep up

Here’s your autumn reset checklist:

✅ Wash once a week or every 10 days - keep natural oils intact
✅ Trade your summer lightweights for rich, sealing textures: shea butter
✅ Add moisture back into your hair
✅ Deep condition twice a month to rebuild strength.

Think of it as your scalp’s seasonal wardrobe change.

Your summer scalp routine was built for heat and humidity. That same routine will destroy your hair in autumn.
As temperatures drop and humidity fades, these are the changes to look for:

Less sweat = less frequent washing
Lower humidity = heavier oils needed
Indoor heating = dry air = dry hair.

Adjusting your hair care routine will mean a lot to your hair

Autumn cornrows hit different. People are switching to them because they are clean. They are elegant and they are built to last through changes while staying stylish.

You need styles that survive school runs, work days and after-school activities too.
As the seasons change. Your hair strategy should too.
Are you switching up your style for autumn or keeping it the same? 👇🏾

Ever wonder why hair appointments get scarce just before schools open? It’s simple. Parents wait last minute assuming their hairdresser will be free.

This happens every year. Parents panic. Hair salons overflow. And half the kids go back to school with old hair.
Here's how to avoid it.

The timing strategy:
1) Book NOW for the appointments you want. Most parents are waiting until the week before school. You're going to book in before that.
2) You and your child will be relaxing while everyone else is running around while being charged premium prices.

If it's already too late:

1) Call first thing Saturday morning. Cancellations happen. People reschedule. First come gets the slot.
2) Ask about waiting lists. If someone cancels you get priority.
3) Book a weekday appointment not weekend. Way less
competition.

When are you booking? What's your plan?

Fresh braids and fresh confidence. That's how she should feel on the first day of school.

Your child's first day back is in a few weeks. And you know what changes everything? Hair that makes them feel like they can conquer anything.

Neat braids aren't just cute. They're a confidence investment.
When kids feel good about how they look, they walk into school differently. They sit up straighter. They speak louder. They believe they belong.

At Tete Hazel, we understand that back-to-school hair is about more than looking polished. It's about feeling ready.

The holidays are over. School's restarting. And you're about to walk into the new term looking exhausted because your hair took a beating this summer and you didn't even notice.

Peak heat. Constant activity. Chlorine. Salt water. Different climates. Your hair was under stress for months straight.
Before you book any hair appointment, you need to honestly assess the damage.

Here's what this actually means:
You can't go straight into a four-week style. Your hair needs a reset first. This isn't about making you feel bad. It's about setting you up to win this term.

What did you notice about your hair in that assessment? Be honest below 👇🏾

Parents going back to work. Kids going back to school. You need hair that doesn't add to the chaos.

These twists are the definition of practical freedom. No daily styling. No morning stress. Just wake up and go handle business. For the parent managing school runs and work stress this hairstyle is a life saver.

Parents: what's your back-to-work hair strategy? Are you keeping it simple this term? 👇🏾
