A new chapter for Katie 💙

After a fantastic few years with SPB Podiatry, the time has come to say goodbye to Katie as she moves on to a new chapter and takes up a position at another clinic.

It has genuinely been a privilege to watch Katie grow and develop as a podiatrist during her time with us. From developing her clinical skills and confidence, to embracing opportunities that have challenged her and allowed her to develop within sports podiatry, she has come a long way.

There have been some fantastic highlights along the way, including gaining experience at the Marathon des Sables and taking on the role of First Team Podiatrist at Glasgow City FC. ⚽️

Watching Katie progress to working at this level, while continuing to develop her clinical knowledge and experience, has been something we have been incredibly proud of.

Although we’re sad to see her leave the SPB Podiatry team, we’re also incredibly excited to see what the next stage of her career brings. She has built a fantastic foundation and we have no doubt that she will continue to go from strength to strength.

Thank you, Katie, for everything you have contributed to SPB Podiatry, our patients and the wider team. It has been a privilege to watch you grow as a podiatrist.

We wish you all the very best for the next chapter — and look forward to seeing everything you achieve! 👏💙

🦶 The Foot Roll: Understanding your Dynamic Centre of Pressure 👇🏼

When we walk, the foot doesn’t simply “land and push off.” The dynamic centre of pressure (CoP) travels through the foot in a very specific pathway, revealing how forces are transferred from ground contact through to propulsion.

During a typical foot roll, we see the following:

1️⃣ Initial Contact (Heel Strike): The CoP begins at the posterolateral heel. This is where the body first accepts load, helping absorb impact and begin shock attenuation.
2️⃣ Loading Response: As the foot moves to the ground, the CoP progresses forward and slightly medially through the heel. Controlled pronation allows the foot to become a flexible adaptor to the surface.
3️⃣ Midstance: The CoP progresses forwards through the midfoot region. This is the transition phase where the body moves over the foot, and efficient load transfer is critical for stability and balance.
4️⃣ Terminal Stance: The CoP advances into the medial forefoot towards the 1st metatarsal as the heel lifts and the foot becomes a more rigid lever for push-off.
5️⃣ Propulsion (Toe-Off): The CoP finishes beneath the hallux (big toe). This is where force is directed into the ground to generate forward movement, making the hallux and 1st ray key contributors to efficient propulsion.

🚩 Deviations from this pathway can indicate reduced shock absorption, excessive or limited pronation, forefoot overload, hallux dysfunction or compensation patterns higher up the kinetic chain.

Using our dynamic Footscan pressure analysis, we can visualise this pathway in real time, assess the speed of your movement and understand not just where pressure is, but how your feet actually function dynamically.

📚 Internal CPD Day at SPB Podiatry 👣

Today we stepped away from the clinic to invest in what matters most—continually developing our knowledge and skills to provide the highest standard of patient care.

Our team covered:
🩺 Basic Life Support & Anaphylaxis training
🧠 Clinical case study discussions and collaborative problem-solving
🏃 MSK education, including gait analysis and the Bojsen-Møller Twin Axis Model, exploring how foot function influences movement
🦶 An afternoon Otoform K workshop, developing our skills in bespoke pressure-relieving silicone orthoses

A huge thank you to Camille from Dieucare Training for delivering our Basic Life Support and Anaphylaxis update. The session was engaging, practical, and highly informative—we really appreciate you sharing your expertise with the team.

Regular CPD allows us to challenge our thinking, share experiences, and ensure we’re delivering evidence-informed care across every area of our practice.

Thank you to the whole team for their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day. We’re looking forward to putting today’s learning into practice for the benefit of our patients.
