Belle recently had a communication session to explore how she has been feeling within herself following a recent health diagnosis.
She repeatedly brought attention to her fur and how it looked and felt. When I mentioned this to her guardian, it made sense that since she has been unwell she hasn’t been grooming herself, she has such a beautiful coat. There was a sense that she didn’t feel her body felt like hers.
This was later confirmed, as she hasn’t been grooming as usual, but I also realised it was more than just that. She has had areas of fur shaved at the vets for various tests and procedures and this felt significant in how she was experiencing her coat and her body, adding another layer to her sense of herself at this time.
Belle also shared about her child guardian comforting her, which felt very significant to her and something she really leaned into during this time of feeling unwell.
Sometimes what animals share goes far beyond physical symptoms. It can also reflect identity, comfort, confidence, and their relationship with their own body during times of change 🩷🐾
