Exciting News from Blakewater Homecare! 🤞

Today we submitted our application to be included in Blackburn with Darwen's SEND Local Offer Directory.

At Blakewater Homecare, we're proud to support young adults and adults with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, sensory impairments and complex needs to live independently and enjoy fulfilling lives within their communities.

Over the years we've had the privilege of supporting individuals and families on their unique journeys, helping people build confidence, develop independence, access their communities and achieve their personal goals.

Being included in the Local Offer would help more families, professionals and young adults find the support they need during the transition into adult services and beyond.

We'll keep you updated on the outcome of our application! 🤞

🎨 This week we visited Arts 2 Heal in Blackburn with one of our service users.

What started as a quick pop-in turned into staying for a taster session! We spent time drawing, painting and getting creative in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The group couldn't have been more friendly and had everything we needed ready to go; paints, rulers, glue, pencils and plenty of encouragement.

Taster sessions are free, with a suggested donation of just £2 per week for regular attendance.

It's fantastic to see local organisations creating opportunities for people to connect, build confidence, express themselves and simply enjoy being part of a community.

A big thank you to everyone at Arts 2 Heal Heal for making us feel so welcome. 💙

👀 I spy our Denny (Registered Manager) on the front row!

Last week, Denny attended Blackburn with Darwen's first Trauma-Informed Conference, bringing together professionals from health, social care, education, local government and the voluntary sector to explore how trauma-informed approaches can create better outcomes for people across our communities.

Denny said:

"Trauma-informed practice isn't about asking 'what's wrong with someone?' but understanding 'what's happened to someone?'. It was inspiring to see so many organisations working together with a shared commitment to creating services that are compassionate, understanding and centred around people's experiences."

A really positive event and an important step towards building stronger, more supportive communities across the borough.

More than 100 people from health, local government and the voluntary sector gathered in Blackburn last week as the borough stepped up work towards becoming fully trauma informed. The council says the aim is to change the way services work across the board, not just at the front line.

☔ Water, water everywhere 🌧… but when the sunshine ☀ finally appears later this week and temperatures reach 24°C make sure there’s still a drop to drink!
Warmer weather can catch people out quickly, especially older people and those who may not always realise they’re becoming dehydrated.

A few little reminders:
💧 Offer drinks regularly
💧 Keep water nearby and easy to reach
💧 Don’t wait until feeling thirsty
💧 Ice lollies, fruit and brews all help too!

A little extra hydration can make a big difference 💙

Another lovely start to a new care package

There’s nothing better than hearing such positive feedback in those first few days of support 😊

Starting care at home can feel like a big step for families, so knowing we’ve helped make that transition feel safe, comfortable, and positive means everything.

A huge well done to the team for delivering the kind, consistent, person-centred care that makes such a difference every single day!
