A lovely day spent at Murcar Golf Course. ⛳️

Great company, a close match, a few putts that somehow refused to drop, and a course that was in fantastic condition from first tee to final green.

Days like these are a reminder that it’s not always about the scorecard. Sometimes it’s about getting outdoors, sharing a few laughs, enjoying a bit of friendly competition, and appreciating the places sport takes us.

Golf has a funny way of teaching patience, humility, and persistence. Much like running, you don’t always get the result you want, but you keep showing up for the next shot.

Beautiful course. Better company. Already looking forward to the next round.

Last night I had the privilege of speaking to about one of the biggest questions runners ask:

👉 How do I avoid injury?

The answer isn’t hidden in a magic exercise, a fancy shoe, or the latest gadget.

It comes down to a few key principles:

👣 Acceptance – Running comes with niggles, setbacks, and bad days. Accept where you are and work from there.

🔍 Be a detective – Your body leaves clues. Don’t ignore them. Small changes in performance, recovery, or discomfort often tell a story before an injury arrives.

⏱️ Respect pacing – Too much, too soon is still one of the biggest injury risk factors in running. Fitness is built gradually, not rushed.

🥗 Master the basics – Sleep, nutrition, recovery, strength work, and consistency will always outperform shortcuts.

🦶 Don’t forget your feet – They are your first point of contact with the ground. Strong, adaptable feet create a better foundation for everything above.

Running isn’t about avoiding every setback.

It’s about making better decisions, building resilience, and stacking the odds in your favour.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, asked questions, and shared their experiences. The conversations after the talk were every bit as valuable as the presentation itself.

Keep running. Keep learning. Keep being curious.

A wee reminder that good work never happens in isolation.

A massive thank you to for the lovely voucher. We’re rewarded based on the feedback and Google reviews left by our patients, so this one is really down to all of you.

Every review tells a story. It helps future patients find the right support, gives us valuable feedback, and pushes us to keep raising the bar. Knowing that the work we do has made a difference to someone’s recovery, confidence, or return to running means more than any voucher ever could.

That said… a dine-in meal for two definitely won’t go to waste! 🍽️

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to leave a review. Your words genuinely matter and help us continue striving to provide the best possible care.

If you’ve been under my care and haven’t left a review yet, I’d be incredibly grateful if you could pop over to the SPEAR page and share your experience. We are always looking to learn, improve, and be the best we can be for every person who walks through the door.

Helping people move better, feel stronger, and get back to doing what they love is why we do what we do.

Thank you for your support. 🙌

Running has a funny way of stripping life back to what really matters.

When you choose to do hard things willingly… suddenly life outside of running doesn’t feel quite so heavy. The early mornings. The long miles. The tired legs. The sessions you nearly talked yourself out of. They build more than fitness — they build perspective.

You start to realise you need less than you thought.
Less noise.
Less distraction.
Less comfort.

Because somewhere between the sweat, the silence, and the struggle… you remember what your body is capable of.

We get one body. One engine. One opportunity to look after the thing that carries us through every high, every low, every challenge life throws our way.

Train hard.
Move often.
Respect your body.
Live easy.

The reward isn’t just performance.
It’s resilience.

Running won’t solve everything… but it will teach you that you are far more capable than you once believed.

Running an ultra changes you.
Not just physically. Mentally. Emotionally. Quietly.

Because nobody accidentally becomes an ultra runner.

You earned every mile.
Every dark morning.
Every soaked pair of shoes.
Every run you nearly quit.
Every session where your legs felt empty but you showed up anyway.

50k. 50 miles. 100k.
The distance is impressive… but the commitment behind it is what really matters.

Most people will never understand why you do it.
Why you willingly choose discomfort.
Why you chase blisters, climbs, fatigue and uncertainty.

But ultra running was never about being normal.

It’s about discovering what’s left when comfort disappears.
It’s about finding resilience in places you didn’t know existed.
It’s about proving to yourself that limits are often negotiated long before they’re reached.

And if you crossed that finish line — no matter the pace, the position, or the struggle — you achieved something extraordinary.

There are no “just” ultra runners.
No easy finishes.
No shortcuts out there.

Only grit.
Only persistence.
Only forward motion.

Keep going. The journey changes you long before the medal does. 🖤🏃‍♂️

Move well. Run well.
Simple words… but there’s balance hidden inside them.

This emblem was designed around more than just aesthetics.
The crossed arrows represent direction, intent and movement.
The circle represents unity, control and the idea that performance works best when everything connects together.

Too often runners chase “run well” without first learning how to “move well.”

But the best performances usually come from balance:
→ Strength and mobility
→ Load and recovery
→ Effort and awareness
→ Performance and durability

The centre point matters most.
That crossing point is where preparation meets purpose.

Every part of the emblem has a role:
• The upward arrows = progression
• The grounded fletching = stability
• The circle = consistency and structure
• The symmetry = efficiency in movement

Good running is rarely chaos.
It’s rhythm. Awareness. Structure. Repetition.

Move well first.
Then run well for longer.

Massive thank you to every volunteer, marshal and race director involved in the Kirkhill 8 🙌

What a day.
Hot. Blustery. Pollen-fuelled.
The kind of conditions that quietly test you over the hours.

But the support out on course never dipped once.

From the encouragement at every checkpoint, to the organisation behind the scenes, to the atmosphere created for runners of every level… it was genuinely superb.

Whether you were chasing miles, chasing a first ultra, or just seeing what you were capable of over 8 hours — this event felt safe, welcoming and brilliantly put together.

That’s what trail running should be about:
community, challenge and shared suffering with a smile somewhere in the middle 😅

A proper credit to everyone involved. Thank you all 👏

4 weeks ago I realised if I was going to survive the ultra distance… I had to build something unbreakable.

So I built an Ultra Ready App.
Not just for running.
For resilience.

Daily exercise.
Weight loss.
Hard things.
Consistency.
No shortcuts.

A proper hard reset.

It wasn’t easy… but it wasn’t meant to be.

Fast forward to today at the Kirkhill 8 🏃‍♂️

⬇️ 5kg down
✅ 9 big laps
✅ 1 small lap
✅ A few extra out-and-backs for good measure

66km 1465m elevation

The biggest change wasn’t the weight.
It was the mindset.

Enjoy the highs.
Appreciate the lows.
Where you are right now can change… but only when you really decide it has to.
