Parents, confidence can come before technique. 🌈

We naturally want to see children learning the skill.

But sometimes there's something more important that needs to happen first.

They need to trust their teacher. Feel safe enough to try. Know they won't be forced. Believe that it's okay not to get it right straight away.

Then suddenly, you see that little moment:

β€œI think I can do this.”

And that's powerful.

Because confidence isn't something we add after the swimming skills. For some children, it's what allows the swimming skills to develop in the first place.

Small steps. Big confidence. πŸ’•

Save this if your child needs confidence before another target.

β€œWhat if my child won't follow instructions?” is something you can ask us without judgement. πŸ’›

If you've ever worried that your child will be labelled β€œdifficult” because they don't follow instructions in swimming, you're not alone.

But there's usually a reason.

Maybe they need more processing time. Maybe the instruction needs to be explained differently. Maybe they're overwhelmed. Maybe they need to understand why they're being asked to do something.

Or perhaps we need to change our approach.

That's something we think about a lot at Rainbow Swim.

Because teaching isn't simply about getting a child to follow the lesson. It's about understanding the child in front of us and finding a way in.

If you've got a question you've been nervous to ask, we're happy to talk. 🌈

What changes when a child is finally taught as an individual?

Quite often, the first thing that changes isn't their swimming.

It's how they feel. πŸ’•

When a child knows their teacher understands them, there's more room for curiosity, trust and having a go.

Maybe they need more time to process an instruction. Maybe a favourite interest helps them engage. Maybe they need the lesson to be quieter. Maybe their goal looks completely different from the swimmer next to them.

That's why we don't start with, β€œWhat should every child be doing?”

We start with: β€œWhat does this child need from us today?”

And sometimes that's where progress begins. 🌈

If you're looking for a different approach, DM us PROGRESS.

October swimming is about to become a whole new adventure. πŸ‚

What happens when swimming lessons feel a little more like an adventure?

October gives us plenty of opportunities to bring imagination into the pool β€” seasonal games, familiar themes, colours, toys and activities that give children something exciting to connect with. πŸŽƒ

For some children, that familiar starting point can make a new activity feel much easier to approach.

And when they're engaged? They're often learning without even realising it.

Follow along to see what we're bringing into the pool this October. 🌈

Minecraft or Disney in a swimming lesson isn't β€œjust play”. 🌈

What if your child's favourite thing could actually help them learn?

Minecraft. Disney. Animals. Roblox.

We use familiar interests because they can give children something they already understand to connect with in an unfamiliar environment.

A favourite character might encourage them to try something new. A familiar game might help with communication. A theme they love might turn β€œI don't want to” into β€œCan we do that again?”

That's why play has such an important place in our lessons.

It's not taking learning away. Sometimes, it's what makes learning possible.

Save this if your child's favourite things are also their learning superpowers. πŸ’•

Parents, if your baby cries in the pool, it doesn't mean you've chosen the wrong class. πŸ’•

We've all had those moments where you arrive ready for a lovely swim… and your baby has completely different ideas.

Crying can simply be your baby's way of telling you something.

They might be tired, hungry, unsure, overwhelmed or just need a little more time to take everything in.

That doesn't mean you've got it wrong.

We want parents to feel confident noticing those cues and responding to them, rather than feeling they have to push through.

Because a positive relationship with water matters far more than getting through every activity. 🌈

Save this for the day you need the reassurance.

The best baby swimming moments aren't always the biggest ones. πŸ’•

Sometimes it's the tiniest change that tells us a baby is beginning to feel more comfortable in the water.

✨A little hand reaching for a toy.
✨ Relaxing into Mum's arms.
✨ A curious splash.
✨ Staying calm for just a little longer.

They might not look like huge milestones, but we notice them.

Because baby swimming isn't about rushing towards the next skill. It's about building a positive relationship with the water, one small moment at a time. 🌈

Tell us your baby's little swimming win β€” we'd love to celebrate it with you.
