🌞 Staying safe in the heat 🌞

Hot weather can increase the risk of dehydration, overheating, heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Take a few simple steps to keep yourself and others safe:

💧 Drink plenty of fluids
🏠 Keep your home cool by closing curtains and blinds during the day
🌳 Stay in the shade, especially between 11am and 3pm
👕 Wear light, loose-fitting clothing and a hat
🚿 Cool down with a cool shower or by splashing your skin with cool water
👀 Check in on older relatives, neighbours and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat

If you or someone else becomes unwell in hot weather, be aware of the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and seek help if needed.

Today is World Blood Donor Day! 🩸

The NHS Give Blood app is the quickest way to browse available appointments, book in real-time and find out what your blood group is. To download, you can search ‘NHS Give Blood’ on the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Giving blood saves lives. The blood you give is a lifeline in an emergency and for people who need long-term treatments.

Blood donors are needed from all backgrounds to ensure there is the right blood available for patients who need it.

🌍 ᗯOᖇᒪᗪ EᑎᐯIᖇOᑎᗰEᑎT ᗪᗩY 🌿

Earlier this year, we took a big step forward by transitioning to recycled paper across all FCMS locations.

Today, we’re going further with our FCMS-wide ‘No Print Day’.

This is a simple challenge for us all:
🔹 Reduce unnecessary printing
🔹 Rethink everyday habits
🔹 Make small changes that add up

We recognise that some printing - particularly in clinical settings - is essential. But if those of us who don’t need to print choose not to, we can make a real difference.

Supported by our Green Champions across all locations, this will be applied as far as practical across the organisation.

We’ll be reviewing the impact next week to see the difference we’ve made together.

When we think about climate action, food waste isn’t always the first thing that comes to mind - but it should be.

That’s why, alongside this, we’re proud to support The Big Food Project through a collection across FCMS. This local charity works across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre to provide food to those who need it most.

We're working alongside fantastic partners including Healthwatch Blackpool, Empowerment, Revoelution, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals and Lancashire & South Cumbria ICB to support delivery on behalf of Blackpool Central West and Blackpool South Central PCNs.

This service builds on targeted outreach in priority wards across Blackpool to identify patients who can then be booked into appointments with long term condition nurses on our mobile wellness hub.

Beyond the initial appointment, patients are supported through twice-weekly MDTs, where a wide range of community partners come together with a shared goal of improving outcomes and ensuring the patients wider needs are supported in the most appropriate way.

We’re proud to play our part in such an impactful initiative that connects services, shares expertise and makes a real difference for patients.
