💜 WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY

Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, we’re joining people around the world in raising awareness, encouraging open conversations and reminding people that support is available.

Mental health struggles are not always visible. Someone may appear to be coping while experiencing overwhelming thoughts or feelings privately.

Sometimes, making a difference starts with connection:

💬 Start a conversation — asking someone how they really are can open the door to support.
👂 Listen without judgement — you don’t need to have all the answers; being present matters.
🤝 Take concerns seriously — if someone tells you they’re struggling, listen and help them access appropriate support.
💜 Stay connected — a message, phone call or simple check-in can remind someone they’re not alone.
🌱 Encourage professional support — reaching out for help can be an important step when things feel overwhelming.

At Prestige Nursing & Care Blackpool, we recognise that wellbeing includes both physical and emotional health. Compassion, dignity and treating every person as an individual are at the heart of good care.

Today is also a reminder to check in with the people around us — our families, friends, colleagues and communities.

One conversation can matter. One connection can matter. Hope can start with being heard. 💜

If you or someone you know needs immediate emotional support in the UK, Samaritans can be contacted free on 116 123, 24 hours a day. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 or attend your nearest A&E.

💙 CAREER JOURNEY | LUKE DENNY – CARE COORDINATOR

Different paths. New opportunities. A brighter future. 🌱

We caught up with Luke Denny, Care Coordinator at Prestige Nursing & Care Blackpool, to hear about his journey through health and social care, the different roles that have shaped his career and his progression since joining Prestige.

Luke began working professionally in health and social care at just 19 years old, starting in a nursing home supporting people living with conditions including dementia, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. As his experience grew, he progressed to Senior Carer, developing his confidence, leadership skills and ability to support others.

His career later took him into mental health care, working within a psychiatric hospital supporting people with complex mental health needs, before moving into services for adults with learning disabilities and eventually progressing into management.

💬 “Working across different areas of care helped me develop resilience, communication skills and an understanding of how important compassion, patience and consistency are.”

After spending time in management, Luke decided to return to a more hands-on role and joined Prestige as a Professional Carer.

💬 “I wanted to return to directly supporting people, which has always been one of the parts of care that I enjoy the most. I value building relationships with the people we support and seeing the difference that good-quality, consistent care can make.”

Since joining Prestige, Luke has been given the opportunity to progress once again and is now our Care Coordinator, bringing together his experience of frontline care, leadership and management while continuing to develop professionally and gain further qualifications. ⭐

💬 “One of the things I value most about Prestige is the support I have received from management and the wider leadership and director team. I’ve been encouraged to develop rather than remain in one role and given opportunities to take on greater responsibility, build my confidence and continue my professional development.”

Luke’s journey is a great example of how a career in care doesn’t have to follow one straight path:

Care Worker ➡️ Senior Carer ➡️ Mental Health ➡️ Learning Disabilities ➡️ Management ➡️ Professional Carer ➡️ Care Coordinator

And his advice to anyone considering their own career in care?

💬 “Your starting position does not have to be your final position. There are opportunities to grow. With commitment, willingness to learn and the right support around you, a career in health and social care can offer a huge amount of progression and personal development.”

We’re proud to have Luke as part of Team Blackpool and look forward to seeing where the next stage of his career takes him. 💙🌱

🎶 MORE THAN CARE | MAKING MOMENTS HAPPEN 💙

Great care is about so much more than meeting day-to-day needs. It’s about understanding what matters to each person and providing the right support to help make those things possible.

Recently, Jasmine, one of the people we support, enjoyed a fantastic evening out attending Ellie Goulding live, alongside her mum and supported by her Professional Carers. 🎤🎶✨

For many people, going to a concert might simply mean getting a ticket and turning up. When someone has more complex care and mobility needs, there can be much more happening behind the scenes.

From planning ahead and considering accessibility, travel and equipment, to ensuring Jasmine had the right support throughout the evening, everything came together around one important goal:

Making sure Jasmine could enjoy her night, her way. 💙

And that's exactly what happened.

🎶 Live music and a brilliant atmosphere.
💙 Quality time with Mum.
😊 An evening away from the usual routine.
✨ And, most importantly, memories made together.

Jasmine's Professional Carers were there to provide the support she needed while ensuring Jasmine remained at the centre of the experience.

Because person-centred care isn't about someone's care needs defining what they can do.

It's about asking:

“What matters to you — and how can we support you to make it happen?”

Whether that's attending a concert, going shopping, enjoying a meal out, seeing friends and family or simply doing more of the everyday things someone enjoys, meaningful care should promote choice, independence, inclusion and opportunity.

A huge thank you to the Professional Carers who supported Jasmine and helped make the evening possible. 👏💙

Because independence doesn't always mean doing everything without support.

Sometimes, it means having the right people beside you so you can live the life you choose.

🎶 More than care. More than a shift. Making moments happen.

And judging by the photos, it looks like Jasmine and everyone involved had a fantastic evening! 💙✨

💙 WHAT DOES A REGISTERED MANAGER DO? — THROUGH MY DAUGHTER’S EYES

We talk a lot about what our teams do at Prestige Nursing & Care Blackpool, but what do our jobs look like to our children?

We asked our Registered Manager’s 10-year-old daughter to explain what she thinks her dad actually does at work… 👀

💬 What does your dad do for his job?
“He’s a manager and looks after everyone at Prestige.”

💬 What do you think your dad does when he goes to work?
“He has lots of meetings, talks on the phone ALL the time, sends loads of emails and sorts things out when there’s a problem.”

💬 Who do you think your dad helps at work?
“The people who need carers, the carers and everyone who works in the office.”

💬 Why do you think your dad’s job is important?
“Because people need looking after and he has to make sure they have the right people helping them and that everyone is safe.”

💬 What do you think your dad is really good at?
“Talking! 😂 And helping people when they have a problem.”

💬 What do you think your dad likes most about his job?
“When everything goes right and people are happy. He also likes telling me when they get a new person to look after.”

💬 What makes you proud of your dad?
“That he works really hard and helps lots of people. Even when he’s really busy he still cares about everyone.”

💬 If you could be the Registered Manager for a day, what would you do?
“I’d give everyone the day off, buy everyone Starbucks and McDonald’s. 😂”

💬 Describe your dad and his job in three words:
“Busy, caring and helpful.”

💬 Finally, is there anything else you think everyone should know about your dad?
“He talks about work A LOT, his phone never stops ringing, and even when he says he’s finished working… he normally isn’t! 😂💙”

Sometimes it takes a 10-year-old to give you the most accurate job description!

Behind the title of Registered Manager are the people we support, our Professional Carers, our branch team — and the families who hear more about Prestige than they probably ever expected to! 💙

What is Complex Care?

Complex care is specialist support provided to people with long-term, complex medical conditions that require a higher level of care than standard home care services.

This can include support for people living with conditions such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease, acquired brain injuries and those requiring specialist interventions such as tracheostomy or PEG feeding.

At Prestige Nursing & Care, our dedicated teams deliver personalised, compassionate care tailored to each individual need, supporting both clients and their families every step of the way.

Not sure what level of care is right for you? Get in touch with our team for expert advice and guidance.

Let’s talk hydration!

When it comes to wellbeing, one of the simplest things we can do is make sure we are drinking more water. Staying hydrated doesn’t just quench your thirst, it helps your body function it’s best.

Water helps to…
• Support your kidneys in flushing out waste products.
• Maintain energy levels and overall wellbeing.
• Protects your organs and tissues.

This , why not make hydration a priority. Whether it’s carrying a water bottle with you or swapping a sugary drink for a glass of water, small changes can make all the difference!

As we get older, getting out and about can become more challenging, but that doesn't mean the fun has to stop! There are plenty of enjoyable ways to stay active, creative, and engaged from the comfort of your own home.

Why not try…

- Drawing and painting to get those creative juices flowing.
- Baking your favourite treats.
- Treating yourself to an at home spa day.
- Playing chess or other boardgames to keep the brain sharp.

Even the smallest of activities can make a big difference to your wellbeing, boost your mood and keep your brain active 💜

Do you have a favourite indoor activity? We would love to know what it is!

August is National Wellness Month – a great reminder to take a little time for your wellbeing.

Looking after your wellbeing doesn't have to mean doing anything strenuous. Even small activities can make a big difference to how you feel.

Whether it's enjoying a gentle walk, spending time in the garden, listening to your favourite music, doing some light stretches, or simply sitting outside for some fresh air, taking a few moments for yourself can help lift your mood and reduce stress.

Taking time to chat with family or friends, reading a book, completing a puzzle, reminiscing over old photographs, or enjoying a favourite hobby can also support your emotional wellbeing.

Remember, it's the little things we do regularly that often have the biggest impact on our health and happiness.

What's one small thing that helps you feel relaxed or brings a smile to your face?
