ššø Finding New Ways to Start Difficult Conversations š¬
For some people, talking about feelings, experiences, or challenges can feel overwhelming. Finding the right words isnāt always easy, especially when emotions are complex or when someone feels anxious, shy, or unsure where to begin.
Thatās why I sometimes use resources such as shells, photo cards, and talk-point question cards during therapy sessions.
š Shells and natural objects can provide a grounding focus, helping people feel more relaxed and present in the moment.
šø Photo cards can make it easier to express thoughts and emotions indirectly. Sometimes an image can communicate something that feels difficult to put into words.
š¬ Talk-point questions offer gentle prompts that encourage reflection and conversation without the pressure of having to know exactly what to say.
These tools can help:
⨠Reduce the pressure of direct conversation
⨠Encourage self-expression and storytelling
⨠Build confidence in sharing thoughts and feelings
⨠Support emotional awareness and insight
⨠Create a more relaxed and engaging therapeutic experience
Everyone communicates differently, and therapy doesnāt have to be about sitting face-to-face and talking continuously. Using creative and interactive resources can help people feel more comfortable, understood, and able to engage at their own pace.
