How to build a DIY pinhole projector for the eclipse
Don't have eclipse glasses? No problem! You can still watch the eclipse safely and indirectly by building your very own projection device.

What you need:

2 sheets of white paper, card or paper plate

A pin or anything small enough to poke a small 3mm sized hole (Ask a grown-up to help!)

How to do it:

Poke a hole: Use the pin to make a tiny, clean hole right in the middle of one piece of card.

Stand with your back facing the Sun.

Project: Hold the card with the hole up so sunlight shines through it, and hold or place the second sheet of white paper below it.

Watch the magic: Look at the bottom piece of paper. You should see a small projected image of the Sun which will become a crescent as the Moon 'takes a bite' out of it and crosses in front of the Sun.

What are the dangers of viewing an eclipse?
To make sure your eclipse experience is 100% safe, follow these simple rules:

🕶️ Never use normal sunglasses. Even if you were to stack three pairs together, they still won't block the dangerous invisible rays that only ISO 12312-2 rated special eclipse glasses will.

📸 Never look through a camera, telescope, or binoculars. These will act like magnifying glasses and can burn your eyes instantly unless fitted with specialist solar filters in front of the lens.

☁️ Never think clouds make it safe. Sunlight punches right through thin clouds, so don't be tricked or tempted to take a quick glance!

📱 Never look directly at the Sun through your phone screen. You can accidentally catch the Sun in your eye while trying to take a picture. It may also damage your phone's camera lens if you have not fitted it with a solar filter in front of the lens.

😎 Never share glasses while looking up. Put your glasses on before you face the Sun, and take them off after turning away. Sharing glasses may cause one or both of you to reveal an eye, or if swapping your glasses to someone else you may forget to look away first.

Some of The Current Smishing Trends
• Parcel Delivery Scams Texts claiming a
• delivery from Royal Mail, Evri, DPD or
• Amazon has failed and requesting a
• small payment for redelivery or customs
• fees. The link directs victims to a fake
• website designed to steal personal and
• payment information.
• HMRC Tax Refund Scams Messages
• claiming you are owed a tax rebate or
• need to settle a tax issue. Victims are
• directed to fake websites where personal
and banking details are harvested. HMRC warns it will never ask for personal or financial
information via text message.
• DVLA Scams Texts claiming your driving licence needs renewing, updating, or verification to
• avoid fines or suspension. Victims are directed to convincing fake GOV.UK-style websites. •
• Bank Impersonation Scams Messages claiming a new payee has been added, a suspicious
• payment has been detected, or an account has been locked. The aim is to steal online banking
• credentials.
• "Hi Mum/Hi Dad" Scams A text claiming to be from a son or daughter using a new phone
• number and urgently needing money. Victims are often pressured into making immediate bank
• transfers.
Criminals Commonly -
• Create urgency and panic.
• Spoof (copy) trusted organisation names.
• Include links to fake websites.
• Request personal, banking or card details.
• Follow up texts with phone calls to add credibility.
Protect yourself –
• Never click links in unexpected text messages.
• Never use contact details provided in the message.
• Always go directly to the official website or app and conform if unsure.

Forward suspicious texts to 7726. STOP and THINK ABC - Never Assume. Never Believe. Always
Confirm.

can do by calling 159 and reporting to Report Fraud at Reporting cyber crime and fraud or
