Musings of a yoga teacher…
I don’t know when it started. Maybe an accumulation of life events. But it feels like one minute I was happy, fit and strong and the next a stone heavier, uncomfortable in my body, fatigued, achey. Miserable. I do recall out on a walk with Kirstie Collyer describing a ‘burning’ sensation in my chest-ish solar plexus region. Like there was a flame waiting to combust. At the time I called it my ‘superpower’. But then it became overwhelming. Heavily disguised as anxiety…but having experienced A&D / burnout….I knew this felt different. Then pains in my feet on waking. And the feeling of putting my finger in an electrical socket the exact minute I got into bed…the HEAT. Not hot flushes just a continuous internal fire pulsating through my body. Plus a hefty dose of insomnia. Skin changes. Hair changes. Energy & focus gone. Weight gain. Zero libido…not even the raunchiest of books could ignite a flicker. Sad times. I bought bigger clothes, told myself it was okay….& continued to feel miserable in my skin.
I tried training on my own…but I was inconsistent. Life yeah!! Mum, wife, job first….and then I made a decision and reached out to Rob Rob - Fat Loss Coach
No more random numbers, random workouts, random goals. A clear structure, goals….weight, strength & macros. An awesome coach and supportive community. But I had to do the work right…you can lead a horse to water and all that. HOWEVER. Rob doesn’t do BS. He keeps you accountable. My goals changed from before walking The Camino to after. And he accommodated that too. My driving force was neither motivation nor discipline. It was COMMITMENT to MYSELF. Putting myself FIRST for a while…even if that means getting up at 05:30 am! And so here I am…in the chaos of menopause, on HRT despite having done all the ‘right’ things including years of phytoestrogens, supplements etc! And am I proud of myself…yes I fu***ng am! And rightly so! A week of getting the cals back up, having a bit of a rest…except not…the 5 days immersive yoga TT in London right now is HARD!! And loving it! Then a new a set of goals and off we go…….
It’s not easy….but if I can do it…then so can you!
