Medication shapes the gut microbiome- and some have a lasting effect similar to taking broad spectrum antibiotics.
This can mean that taking prescribed medication can lead to changes in our gut that might get confused for IBS and other symptoms even years later once medication has stopped.
In tracking back my clients symptoms I often find a trigger point somewhere in their medical history when things changed in their gut and symptoms first started.
This is worth thinking about if you ever went on holiday got a tummy bug, or had a tooth abscess leading to antibiotics or even a change in circumstances that led to stress and anxiety.
In fact, when the researchers looked at people taking anxiety medications they found the most profound shifts in their gut microbiome even many years later.
