Best Start in Life has published new guidance to help parents and carers of children under five navigate screen time, offering practical advice to support informed choices to help little brains develop healthy screen habits.

Digital screens are now a normal part of family life. The early years are however critical for development - 90 per cent of a child’s brain development occurs by age give, making it a critical period for the development of social, emotional and cognitive skills.

- For children under 2, avoid screens except for shared moments like family video calls.
- For ages 2–5, try to keep screen time to 1 hour a day or less.

Carers Week is about raising awareness for carer friendly communities - places, spaces, services, and groups where unpaid carers are recognised, understood, and valued.

Together, we can build communities that support carers in every part of their lives. 🌟

If you’re an unpaid carer, or know someone who is, support and information are available.

We conducted an Enter and View Revisit at Pinehurst Care Centre, in May 2026 to see what had happened since our visit in 2025 and the recommendations we made.

We were pleased to find that improvements had been made to support those with dementia, make the centre feel more homely and give as much independence as possible to residents, in relation to their capabilities.

Some refurbishments had taken place and more is in progress which will benefit residents and relatives.

Help shape the future of health and wellbeing in Bracknell Forest

Bracknell Forest Council, the NHS and community organisations are developing a new Health and Wellbeing Strategy for the next 10 years. The strategy will help shape future support, services and priorities that affect people’s health and wellbeing across the borough.

The strategy focuses on three main priorities:

Start Well: helping children and young people have the best start in life

Live Well: supporting healthy, connected communities

Age Well: helping people stay healthy and independent for longer

They want to hear from residents, community groups, professionals and local organisations about whether these priorities reflect the realities of life in Bracknell Forest and what would make the biggest positive difference to people’s wellbeing.
