A day in the life of a Registered Manager: You wake up at 5:30am already thinking about who's going to cover the night shift tonight.

You check your phone before you've even made coffee — two messages from staff, one pulling out of tomorrow, one asking about holiday.

Your first emotion of the day is dread, and it's not even 6am yet.

By 8am you've called four people, texted three more, and rearranged the rota twice.

You haven't spoken to a single resident yet.

By 3pm you realise you haven't had lunch.

By 6pm you're still at your desk, and the thing you planned to do today: the supervisions, the audit, the one-to-one with your deputy…hasn't happened. Again.

You go home, check your phone one more time, and start planning tomorrow's rota in your head.

What you want is a day where the rota doesn't define you.

Where you walk in and the team is there, not because you spent all night arranging it, but because it's sorted.

A day where you get to be the Registered Manager you trained to be: on the floor, with residents, leading your team, doing the work that actually matters.

What you need is for someone to have your back on the staffing side, so you can spend your day being a manager, not a rota-fixing machine.

If this sounds like your day, and I know it does for so many of you, tag a fellow manager who'll recognise this.

You're not alone in it. 💚

It's 11pm. You're still screening CVs because someone handed in their notice this morning and the rota already had two gaps.

You're exhausted, mentally done, but you can't stop because if you don't find someone, who will?

You feel guilty asking your loyal staff to pick up another shift.

And underneath it all, a quiet fear: what if the next sickness call or resignation is the one that pushes the service beyond its limits?

So you spend your evenings on recruitment sites instead of with your family.

You postpone supervisions, audits, and quality improvement projects because the rota takes priority.

You're managing a home by managing a crisis, day after day.

What you actually want is simple: to walk into work knowing every shift is covered.

To start the day as a leader, chatting with residents, supporting your team, preparing for inspections.

To feel like you're running the home, not the other way round.

What you need isn't another agency sending whoever's available.

You need a staffing partner who understands the realities of care, one who provides dependable temporary cover when sickness happens, and ongoing rota gaps appear.

So you can stop firefighting and start leading again.

If that's what you're looking for, DM ‘RELIEF’.

Let's talk about what that could look like for your home.

The best agency carer you've had all year just told you they're being moved to another home next week...and you're back to square one.

Most managers think the problem is that good agency staff always move on. The real problem is you have no way to keep the ones who are already great for your home.

Imagine having a temp carer who already knows your residents, your routines, your standards and then making them a permanent part of your team. No starting from scratch. No re-training. Just continuity of care and a stable team member who's already proven themselves in your home.

That's what our temp-to-perm service does. We place someone as a temp, and if they're the right fit, they become permanent.

If you want to turn your best temp into a permanent team member, DM us 'KEEPER'. We'll show you how temp-to-perm works.

Who supports the people who spend so much of their time supporting others? 💙

If you're caring for a loved one, you know how rewarding it can be, but also how easy it is to put your own wellbeing on hold.

We are delighted to be launching Carers Connect, in partnership with Southbourne Beach Care Home - Avery Collection.

Together, we're creating a welcoming monthly space where local carers can:
🤝 Meet others who understand.
☕ Enjoy a coffee and a chat.
💙 Share experiences in a supportive environment.
🧠 Pick up practical advice and helpful resources.

Our first session will be a relaxed taster where we'll get to know one another, talk about the challenges carers face, and hear what you'd like future sessions to include.

Whether you're caring for a parent, partner, friend or neighbour, you're very welcome to join us. And if it helps, you're welcome to bring your loved one along too.

📅 Thursday 30th July
🕙 10:00am – 12:00pm
📍 Southbourne Beach Care Home, 42 Belle Vue Road, Southbourne, BH6 3DS

If you know someone who is an unpaid carer, we would really appreciate it if you could share this post with them. Sometimes, knowing you're not alone can make all the difference.

We look forward to welcoming you and building a supportive network for carers in our local community.
