If your attention wanders during self-hypnosis, you have not necessarily failed. You may have encountered an opportunity to practise the skill that matters next: returning.
This short, practical exercise deliberately allows thoughts, sounds and sensations to draw your attention away. You will then practise noticing what happened and guiding your attention back—without frustration, judgement or an internal disciplinary hearing.
