Found something unusual on the beach?

Although rare, it could be unexploded ordnance.

Stormy seas, bad weather and high tides can uncover objects that have been hidden for many years.

Ordnance can come in many shapes and sizes, so if you spot something you’re unsure about, don’t touch or move it.

Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. We’ll work with the relevant authorities to make the area safe and ensure the object is dealt with correctly.

October is Stoptober — but if you haven’t started yet, you haven’t missed it.

Private flu vaccinations are now available at **Islay Pharmacy for £25**.

❄️ Winter prep starts now

The colder months bring busier diaries, changing weather and the return of seasonal illnesses. Getting your flu vaccination early is a simple way to prepare before flu begins circulating more widely.

The vaccination helps reduce your risk of becoming seriously unwell with flu and can also help protect the people around you. It can take around two weeks for your body to develop its full immune response, so it’s worth getting protected before winter is in full swing.

Our private flu vaccination service is available for anyone who isn’t eligible for a free NHS vaccination—or who would simply like to get winter-ready early.

Walk in Monday to Friday:

You might know that sepsis is a serious condition, but were you aware that it is a reaction to an infection, and that it can be life-threatening?

🤯 It's September already… which means flu vaccine season is nearly here! 💉🍂

This year, private flu vaccinations will be available at Islay Pharmacy for £25—with no appointment needed.

A private flu vaccination may be worth considering if you’re not eligible for the free NHS programme, particularly if you:

👥 Work closely with the public
🚢 Travel regularly on and off the island
💼 Are self-employed or cannot afford time away from work
🏠 Live with or regularly visit someone vulnerable
🛡️ Simply want some extra protection this winter

Walk-in vaccination times

FROM MONDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER.

📅 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday:
11am–12.30pm and 3pm–5pm

📅 Tuesday and Saturday:
11am–12.30pm

There’s no need to book—simply come along during one of our walk-in periods. Vaccinations will be subject to stock availability and a short suitability assessment by our pharmacist.

A little ferry-proof planning… 🌊

Our vaccines, like almost everything else, have to cross the water to reach us! Coming along earlier in the season helps you avoid leaving it until flu is circulating, winter weather arrives or potential ferry disruption affects supplies.

If you’re eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination, you should continue to receive it through the NHS vaccination programme—Islay Pharmacy does not provide NHS flu vaccinations.
