Thank you Lingo for sending me this CGM sensor for continuous glucose monitoring.

I have family history of type 2 diabetes, and know that I have a predisposition to slightly higher than optimal blood glucose levels.

However, family history of an illness doesn't mean you will get the illness; only a small part of your risk is influenced by genetics, and your diet, lifestyle and mindset play a much bigger role on whether you develop a chronic condition or not.

Using wearables such as CGMs is a great way to get data from your body and motivate you to make changes.

I use CGMs with clients too, so if you want support with using these devices, I'd be more than happy to help.

You will also get a discount if you order Lingo as my client.

Do get in touch and let's have a chat. ๐Ÿฅฐ

This video shows how easy it is to attach the sensor and how to use the Lingo app that looks pretty good!

Will keep you posted on my progress in my stories so stay tuned.

Did you know that PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) is now called PMOS, or polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome?

Nutrition professionals have always known that PCOS is much much more than just ovarian/reproductive disorder.

It's a whole body condition and particularly closely linked to metabolic issues, such a insulin resistance and T2 diabetes, as well as inflammation, and requires an approach that considers this.

I've just ran and interpreted comprehensive blood test results to a PCOS client and her results clearly confirm these links - insulin resistance, inflammation, thyroid and androgenic hormone imbalances, they are all there to be seen.

The test I'm using includes 60 biomarkers of health:

๐Ÿฉธ Full blood count
๐Ÿฉธ Kidney function
๐Ÿฉธ Liver Function
๐Ÿฉธ Proteins
๐Ÿฉธ Lipid Profile
๐Ÿฉธ Inflammation (Hs-CRP and uric acid)
๐Ÿฉธ Diabetes (fasting glucose and Hba1c)
๐Ÿฉธ Iron Status (full iron panel, 5x markers)
๐Ÿฉธ Vitamins: Folate, active B12, vitamin D
๐Ÿฉธ Advanced thyroid panel (TSH, FT3, FT4, antibodies TPO, TG)
๐Ÿฉธ Steroid and s*x hormones: DHEAS, Cortisol, FSH, LH, Oestradiol, Testosterone, SHBG
๐Ÿฉธ Pituitary hormone prolactin

๐Ÿ’‰ Plus a phlebotomist visiting you for the blood draw.

This is an excellent set of markers for people with PMOS, and other hormonal issues, as well as for peri-menopausal and post-menopausal ladies who want to dig deep to address any symptoms or take a proactive approach to their health.

And I also run this test often with men. It covers so many bases.

Unfortunately your GP won't test such a wide range of markers when investigating your symptoms. And they also use much broader reference ranges than the narrower optimal functional reference ranges I use, hence often miss things that are starting to go wrong. And then patients are told 'all is fine' when they feel anything but fine!

Comment PMOS ๐Ÿ‘‡ if you's like to know more about my approach to PCOS and other hormonal conditions, menopause or inflammatory conditions, and I'll message you.

Let's chat!

BDNF, or brain-derived neurotrophic factor, is a protein found in the brain regions of the hippocampus, cerebral cortex, hypothalamus, and cerebellum.

Itโ€™s often called โ€œfertilizer for your brainโ€.

Itโ€™s involved in the development and functioning of nerve cells, drives neuroplasticity and is associated with memory and learning and increased cognitive function.

It supports a healthier brain, slow down brain ageing, and reduce mood-related issues, such as depression and anxiety.

The good news is that you can do a lot to get more of this brain fertiliser.

There are many simple lifestyle factors that can boost the levels of BDNF.

Swipe left ๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿผ to see my top six that are easy to incorporate to your daily/weekly routine.

๐Ÿซ Eat foods rich in polyphenols and other phytochemicals

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Move your body more

๐Ÿฃ Increase your intake of omega-3 fish oils

๐Ÿ‘„ Chew more

Osteoporosis awareness month

Osteoporosis has no symptoms! Until you break or fracture a bone!

Unless you get a bone mineral density scan, you might not know your bone density is deteriorating.

But you can do a lot to proactively support your bones and my top tips are in the caption.

๐Ÿฆด Get a bone scan done.

๐Ÿฆด Get a comprehensive blood test to see what's happening inside your body and know about your bone-related blood markers. My Wellness Check includes a comprehensive blood test.

๐Ÿฆด Optimise vitamin D status as well as making sure to get other bone supporting and synergistic nutrients from your diet, e.g. calcium, magnesium, boron, K2

๐Ÿฆด Do strength training a few times a week. Weight-bearing exercise is one of the best things to build strong bones.

๐Ÿฆด Eat a healthy diet that provides protein, minerals, collagen, and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds.

๐Ÿฆด Optimise your gut health, gut health is really crucial for absorption of all the vital nutrients, and some bacteria also synthesise some nutrients such as K2.

๐Ÿฆด Check potential nutrient depletions for any medications you are taking and make sure you get these nutrients from your diet or supplements.

๐Ÿฆด Reduce alcohol and coffee. Caffeine can bind to minerals like calcium and high intake can decrease calcium bioavailability. At least donโ€™t have caffeine with your meals. And heavy alcohol drinkers have reduced bone density and a higher risk of osteoporosis.

Comment 'BONE' to get details of the tests and scan in using.

Habit stacking

"[After/Before/During] [Current Habit], I will [New Habit]".

Examples:

๐Ÿซ– While waiting for the kettle to boil, I will stop and take a couple of deep breaths while gazing out of the window.

โ˜• When having my first morning cuppa, I will take it out into the garden to get daylight exposure to my eyes.

๐Ÿฒ When Iโ€™m putting together a meal, I will โ€˜add one moreโ€™ [veg, spice, colour, protein sourceโ€ฆ.].

๐Ÿชฅ While brushing my teeth, I will do squats/shake my body.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Before I turn off lights in the night, I note (on paper or in the mind) 1-3 positive things about the day/myself.

๐Ÿœ When I sit down to dinner, I will slow down my breathing and engage with the food on the plate/say thanks for the food before I tuck in/think of one thing Iโ€™m grateful for.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿซ When Iโ€™m taking the kids to school, I will walk.

๐Ÿฅฆ When I serve myself a meal, I start with colourful/green vegetables.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ After getting into bed, I will read a book (instead of scrolling on the phone).

The new habits can be anything related to:
Diet ๐Ÿฅ‘
Morning Routine ๐Ÿ˜ด
Workday ๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ
Physical Activity ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
Mindfulness ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
Family/Relationships ๐Ÿซ‚
(...)

Triggers are the old habits that you will use to stack on a new habit.

๐Ÿ›๏ธWaking up/get out of bed.
๐ŸšฟDuring a shower
๐ŸชฅBrushing teeth.
๐Ÿ‘—Getting dressed.
๐Ÿซ–Boiling the kettle/brewing coffee.
๐Ÿฅ—Eating breakfast/lunch/dinner.
๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐ŸซTaking the kids to school.
๐Ÿ—‚๏ธStarting and/or ending a work day.
๐Ÿ˜ดGetting into bed.
๐Ÿ’กTurn off the lights.

When you stack tiny new habits onto old ones, you can achieve a lot.

Itโ€™s a fantastic way to make your life easier when wanting to cement a new habit(s).

Itโ€™s multitasking at its best!

25/04/2026

๐Ÿคฟ After 2 weeks of sun and snorkeling in Bonaire, I'm back to work with renewed energy, vitamin D topped up and well and truly relaxed, happy and grateful for the opportunity to visit this beautiful island with wonderful reefs, sea/wild life.

โ˜€๏ธ I loved learning about the island and, as a "health warrior", was particularly pleasantly surprised to learn about some of the initiatives that the island and the resort have taken:

๐Ÿšซ Bonaire is one of the few countries that have banned sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate in order to protect its coral reefs and wildlife. Tropic Skincare 'Great Barrier' sun lotion that is certified reef-safe and water-resistant cane handy. My Tropic ambassador link in comments ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ if you want to try any Tropic products.

๐Ÿ’งTap water is safe to drink in Bonaire and tastes lovely after chilling. The island has a desalination facility to turn seawater into tap water. They use chemical-free reverse osmosis technology (no chlorine is used in the process, nor is fluoride added to the water).

๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ The resort we stayed at doesn't use any chlorine in their pools. Instead they use magnesium chloride which is gentler on the skin, reduces irritation, and can be absorbed via skin to support relaxation, muscle recovery and detoxification. At home I tend to buy magnesium chloride flakes to add to the bath whenever I want to have a relaxing bath so you might understand how happy I was to learn that the hotel uses the same thing in their pools.

๐Ÿข We were lucky to see incredibly beautiful wildlife: various colourful fishes, sea turtles, octopus, baby squid, beautifully shaped corals, gorgeous birds such as pink flamingos, green-yellow parrots and even a fleeting sight of a tiny hummingbird, and lizards, incl. iguanas...

โœˆ๏ธ We booked this holiday via independent travel expert Jessica Aspin Travel. I wanted to find a destination with coral reefs for snorkeling that matches our amazing snorkeling holidays in the Maldives so Jess suggested Bonaire. And I was not disappointed! Check out her page if you are looking a holiday, she can help.

๐Ÿ’ป Back to my desk and in full swing from Monday. Enjoy your weekend!
