Bleeding Gums: Normal or Not?
True or false: Bleeding gums are normal.
👉 Answer: False.
Bleeding gums are often an early sign of gum inflammation. This can happen when plaque builds up around the gumline, making the gums sore and more likely to bleed.
The good news is that early gum problems are usually reversible with the right care.
What can help:
• Brush twice a day with a medium toothbrush / electric tooth brush
• Clean between your teeth daily using floss or interdental brushes
• Keep up with regular dental and hygiene appointments
Some people stop brushing when they see blood, but this can actually make the problem worse. Gentle, thorough cleaning is key.
If your gums bleed regularly — especially when brushing or flossing — it’s always worth getting them checked so we can advise you properly and help prevent future problems.
