ARRS funding gives PCNs options. But which option delivers the best value?

When looking at Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) roles, the headline cost is only part of the picture.

Recruitment, management, clinical supervision, governance and how effectively that clinician is integrated into the wider team can all influence the value you ultimately get from your workforce investment.

In our latest video, we look at what PCNs should consider when comparing the cost of different ARRS workforce options.

Because the cheapest option on paper isn’t always the one that delivers the greatest value.

A Structured Medication Review isn't a tick-box exercise. It's a clinical intervention.

When SMRs are rushed to meet targets, we miss the deprescribing opportunities that actually improve patient quality of life.

Quality over quantity always wins in medicines optimisation.

How do you ensure your SMRs remain patient-centred?

A Structured Medication Review isn’t a tick-box exercise. It’s a clinical intervention.

The value of an SMR isn’t simply in completing it.

It’s in having the time to understand the patient, review their medicines properly and identify opportunities to improve safety, effectiveness and quality of life.

Sometimes that means deprescribing. Sometimes it’s optimising treatment, improving adherence or identifying a risk that might otherwise have been missed.

The number of SMRs completed matters.

But so does the quality of every conversation.

💬 How do you ensure your SMRs remain meaningful and patient-centred?

Remote doesn’t have to mean disconnected.

Our Clinical Pharmacists can work directly within a practice’s EMIS workflow, becoming part of the day-to-day clinical team without needing to be physically based in the surgery.

That means supporting medicines optimisation, Structured Medication Reviews (SMRs), prescribing tasks and other agreed clinical activity within the systems practices already use.

For busy GP practices, it’s about adding clinical pharmacy capacity without adding unnecessary complexity.

We’re finalists! 🏆

We’re delighted to share that Core Prescribing Solutions has been named a finalist for the Training and Development Award at the C+D Awards 2026.

Training and development plays a huge part in how we support our people, strengthen our clinical teams and continue delivering high-quality care for the practices and PCNs we work with.

So, to be recognised in this category means a great deal to us and is a brilliant reflection of the hard work that goes on across the team.

Now we’ll be keeping everything crossed for the big night! 🤞

A huge congratulations to all of this year’s finalists, and good luck to everyone nominated. We look forward to celebrating with you.

The August Bank Holiday is almost here. ⏳

But for primary care teams, the days before a long weekend can often be some of the busiest.

Prescription requests increase. Acute queries need resolving. And everyone is working hard to make sure patients have what they need before the doors close.

So, to everyone navigating the pre-bank holiday rush this week - thank you. 💙

💬 Primary care teams, what’s your best tip for making the run-up to a Bank Holiday that little bit smoother?

A slightly different setting for the SLT last week… 🎯

Our Senior Leadership Team headed to Swinton Estate in Ripon for some time away from the day-to-day and a chance to spend time together as a team.

And we certainly didn’t ease ourselves into it.

🪓 Axe throwing
🏹 Crossbow shooting
🌲 Low ropes
🧭 And some very competitive orienteering…

Away days aren’t just about getting out of the office. They’re an opportunity to strengthen relationships, challenge ourselves in different ways and make time for conversations that don’t always happen between meetings.

It was also a chance to reset before coming together the following day for our quarterly business update, looking at where we are, where we’re heading and how we can continue adding more value for the practices and PCNs we work with.

Plenty of laughs, plenty of healthy competition and, thankfully, everyone returned in one piece. 😅

A brilliant couple of days with a brilliant team. 💙

It’s National Got Checked Day. ✅

Screening can identify health problems earlier, when there may be more options for treatment and intervention.

But offering screening is only part of the challenge.

In primary care, the patients who could benefit most aren’t always the easiest to reach.

That’s where proactive population health management, targeted outreach and multidisciplinary working can make a real difference, helping teams identify gaps and engage patients who may otherwise be missed.

Because prevention only works when we reach the people who need it.

💬 What’s working in your practice or PCN to improve screening uptake?

Excellence deserves recognition. 🌟

This month, we’re proud to celebrate Yalda as our Clinician of the Month.

Yalda consistently goes above and beyond to support both her patients and the practices she works with. From delivering high-quality Structured Medication Reviews (SMRs) to supporting CQC compliance, audits and quality improvement activities, her commitment to excellence is evident in everything she does.

Recently, Yalda played a pivotal role in securing the continuation of one of our practice partnerships. Through her clinical expertise, professionalism and the strong relationships she built with the practice team, she demonstrated the value of collaborative, patient-centred care.

She’s also been a fantastic support to colleagues, willingly helping to reduce backlogs during busy periods, sharing best practice and always making time to support those around her.

Yalda truly embodies the values of Core Prescribing Solutions, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything she continues to do.

Congratulations, Yalda, and thank you for your dedication, professionalism and outstanding contribution. 👏
