Our Breast Cancer Now Afternoon Tea is happening this Thursday 13th August, 12–4pm at Westcliffe Pharmacy! 🫖🍰

But this isn’t just an afternoon of tea and cakes - it’s also a chance to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of looking after our breast health. 💗

🎀 Breast cancer affects men too
Around 420 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK.

🎀 Most breast changes aren’t cancer
But any unusual change should always be checked by your GP.

🎀 Know your normal
Get to know how your breasts normally look and feel and check them regularly, ideally around the same time each month.

🎀 Early diagnosis saves lives
Finding breast cancer early can make it more treatable and can save lives.

🎀 Lifestyle can influence your risk
Eating well, staying active, limiting alcohol and not smoking can all help reduce your risk.

🛡️ FREE NHS MenB (Meningitis B) Vaccinations

From today, the NHS MenB (Meningitis B) vaccination service is available through participating community pharmacies across England – including Westcliffe Pharmacy.

Meningococcal Group B (MenB) is a serious bacterial infection that can lead to meningitis and septicaemia (blood poisoning). Vaccination is the best way to help protect yourself before starting university or college.

You can receive the vaccine if you:
✔️ Were born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008, or
✔️ Were born on or after 21 July 2001 and are starting university or a residential further education college for the first time this autumn (including international students and students from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man).

The MenB vaccine is given in 2 doses, with the second dose administered at least 4 weeks after the first.

📅 First doses are available until 31 December 2026.
📅 Second doses are available until 31 March 2027.

💊 Medicine Supply Pressures 💊

Rising tensions between the US and Iraq have disrupted the Strait of Hormuz, delaying shipments for healthcare. With around half of the UK’s medicines imported, there are increasing concerns about potential NHS shortages.
Pharmacies across England are already experiencing supply challenges.

At Westcliffe Pharmacy, we are working hard every day to secure the medicines our patients need. This often involves:
• Checking multiple suppliers
• Sourcing alternative brands
• Liaising with prescribers for safe substitutions
These efforts take time and resources, but patient care remains our priority.

Access to treatment is just as important as diagnosis. When medicines are unavailable or underfunded, it places pressure on the entire system and impacts patient care.
Community pharmacies continue to operate under funding that has not kept up with rising costs, leaving many under significant strain.
