What is the difference between a podiatrist & a chiropodist?

In the UK, the terms chiropodist and podiatrist refer to the same healthcare profession. The title chiropodist was traditionally used, but podiatrist became the preferred term as the profession expanded beyond routine foot care to include biomechanics, diabetic foot management, sports injuries, wound care, nail surgery, and prescribing rights for some practitioners. Both titles are protected by the Health and Care Professions Council, and practitioners must be registered to practise legally. Today, most professionals use the title podiatrist, although some clinics and patients still use chiropodist, particularly when referring to routine foot care such as nail cutting, corn and callus treatment.
