Hey everyone, last call for my first Mountain Training course in Grindleford this Saturday. It's all about how we can best support neurodivergent folk in accessing the outdoors, with a bonus sensory walk so we can experience some of the challenges we, as leaders, can support with.

Meet the Team: Next up… Steve! 🥾

Many of you will know RFOA regular Steve — aka Scottish Steve, aka Tich! 😄

Steve is a Mountain Leader who loves a long-distance trail, but he’s equally happy tackling shorter routes and supporting others along the way.

He’s a busy guy! His day job is with the NHS Autism/ADHD Service, where he leads walks, and he’s also a Life Coach with his own company, Inside Outside Coaching, where he uses the outdoors as part of his coaching.

Putting his vast array of people skills to great use, Steve has recently written a CPD course for Outdoor Instructors focusing on neurodivergence — something he’s incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about.

Steve’s enthusiasm is infectious, and he’s another hugely popular member of the team! 🙌

Whilst walking, Steve loves Scottish craic, sunglasses, Paramo gear, vegan sweets and barefoot soles! 😂🏔️😎 🍬🦶

For anyone who might be interested, I'll be running this course in Grindleford on 17 October. The session focuses on sharing practical knowledge and experience around how we can better support neurodivergent people to access and enjoy the outdoors.

Over the past five years, I've led monthly wellbeing walks for autistic and ADHD adults in the Peak District as part of an NHS-funded Adult Neurodevelopmental Support Service. During that time, I've learned a great deal about what helps people feel safe, included, and able to benefit from outdoor spaces, and I'm looking forward to sharing those insights with others.
