The Brightlingsea Accessibility Map launches this Friday! The first phase features just a few places and businesses in the town, mainly to ensure we get the format & logistics correct, but it will be rolled out across the town over the summer. The dream is to have every organisation, business, event and activity listed on our map to show off what an accepting and accessible place our Brightlingsea is.

More details will follow on Friday...but for now, please look out for our posters appearing in shop windows.

It's taken almost 2 years and many 4am starts to fit the study in, but I can finally announce that I have passed my PG Certificate in Sensory Integration and can now add the title Sensory Integration Practitioner to my CV!

I did find out I had passed, with Merit, 5 weeks ago, but the results were not allowed to be shared until after exam board this week. And, it has taken me the 9 weeks since I submitted my final assignment to recover from the caffeine fueled final weeks of study.

So, what does it mean? Well, over the next month I'll be launching some additional services aimed at supporting people with pain, neurodiversity, menopause and sensory processing issues, alongside the traditional assessments for sensory integration and processing issues that are often needed in education settings. And of course...still the usual physio that Brightlingsea Physiotherapy has always offered.

Huge thanks go to Leon who has endured this course alongside me, keeping me fed and more than occasionally wined! Also to Robyn for allowing me to study and for being the original inspiration for following this course. And my lovely patients who have followed the journey with me...I am v grateful for all your support.

There may be a little ๐Ÿพ tonight!

Come along to the Brightlingsea Winter Fest Wellbeing day tomorrow (Sat 7th Feb) and learn about why we fidget! My talk at 12.30pm will take you on a whistle stop tour of the brain changes in different conditions and the reasons movement helps us feel calmer.

There are lots of stalls and activities on the day promoting movement...so come and listen to the reasons for moving, and then go and talk to the experts! Oh, and you can fidget to your hearts desire during my session! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™

5 things I have found helpful in being a member of this local networking group:

1. Appreciating and learning about other local businesses that I was unaware existed.

2. Learning from business that are completely different to my own, but who are able to share strategies and resources that will benefit my own business.

3. Encouragement, non judgemental advice and insights from people outside of my specific area of expertise, who make me reflect on how I may be able to improve or grow my own business

4. Opportunity to build my own confidence in networking with businesses outside of my professional scope.

5. Being a part of a group of helpful, genuinely interested business owners who want to support other likeminded individuals in creating business and personal development success.

This tree is for the SEN parent/carer support group I run in Bsea. The aim of the group was to create a safe space where parents or carers can talk through issues and be signposted to professional support if required. We've only been running for 7 months but the group has proved to be a valuable local resource. It is peer led...I run it as a parent of a child with SEN, but I'm always happy to talk physio or sensory integration over coffee and we have other parents with lived experience supporting too.

Our tree highlights sensory overwhelm at Christmas, which doesn't just affect children but is common in many of us. The leaflet offers suggestions to help cope...please come and take one. Remember, Christmas doesn't have to to look like the adverts on TV. Christmas dinner could be a bowl of your favourite cereal under a warm blanket or include a trip to the park to escape the chaos of present opening.

Look after your own sensory health this Christmas and make sure you do something YOU enjoy!

14 years ago today I graduated with an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (Physiotherapy) following (possibly) the longest MSc in the history of MSc's! This was a post grad' qualification, achieved 14 years after my first physiotherapy graduation. So, blimey...I've been a chartered physiotherapist for over 28 years!

This is all a timely reminder and big dose of encouragement as I reach the middle of the 3rd module of my Sensory Integration training. I wonder if this time next year, Robyn will still come and wear my cap?!?

A lovely weekend at the Brightlingsea Free Music Festival. Leon Stephens (my lovely Tue am physio and also my husband) was volunteering behind the bar most of the weekend, but he was on hand to save my drink when my Festival stool collapsed with all the bopping (!) and then on hand to Salsa with to the Wonder of Stevie!!! The Icing on the cake was meeting a patient who said she'd been dancing...which wasn't possible for them last year.

Thank you BFMF for a wonderful community event. ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ’™
