Piriformis syndrome is when the piriformis muscle in the buttock is putting pressure on the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in the body. It travels from the low back, down through the buttocks, back of the legs and into the feet.
The pressure on this nerve causes pain in the buttock, down the back of the leg and sometimes into the foot. It can also cause back pain. You don't have to live with this pain, you can take action - I have many great massage techniques that can ease and eradicate sciatic pain that pair very well with simple stretches for you to do at home to help take control of this painful situation. During the ongoing coronavirus pandemic I have am offering one to one treatments online as a way to help those in need while they cannot access hands on treatment. This is suitable for anyone who wishes to avoid contact, but especially for the extremely vulnerable.

These sessions will be provided by me from my home, via video link, to you in the safety of your own home. Each treatment will be 30 minutes and will focus on your unique needs. I will conduct a consultation during our first session to learn more about your situation.

The sessions will be designed specifically for the individual and will include all or some of the following as appropriate:

breathing exercises

one to one guidance of self massage to target any aches and pains that you have, using a fusion of various massage techniques including fascial work, trigger points and acupressure

gentle stretches

simple exercises for you to continue through the week to help you manage your condition

I am offering these sessions at £30 per treatment.

Whether you are suffering with a specific condition such as plantar fasciitis, sciatica, neck pain, low back pain, or headaches or are feeling anxious, depressed, or have difficulty sleeping these sessions will be ideal for you. In order to see a real improvement on your condition I would recommend 4 weekly sessions.

All that is required is a device on which you are able to access video calls such as Skype, WhatsApp, Facetime, Zoom etc.

Dear All
In light of recent recommendations laid out by the government regarding covid 19 and some discussion with family, colleagues and peers, I have taken the difficult decision to temporarily close my clinic with immediate effect. I will be looking for ways in which to support my clients whilst this temporary closure is in place. The decision has not been made lightly but I feel that it is the right thing to do. We all have a duty to protect ourselves and each other from unnecessary transmission.

ITBFS!??! What's that?
Iliotibial Band Friction Syndrome. It's pain on the outside of the knee. It's also known as Runners Knee. It's an overuse injury where there has been repeated trauma. It can be caused by a poor running technique, weak hip and gluteal muscles, weak inner quads, or a weak core. It can also be caused by poor foot arch control, a sudden increase in mileage in running, excessive hill training and/or endurance training. The main structures that are involved in this knee pain are the femur/thigh bone, IT band, hips and gluteal/bottom muscles.
What is the IT Band? It is a long, thick and very strong strip of non elastic ligament that attaches the knee with the muscles in the bottom, it runs from the outside of the knee up the outside of the thigh into the bottom where it attaches to muscles. Tight muscles will pull on this band of ligament and restrict movement and create pain. There is a gradual onset of the symptoms and if you have ITBFS you will feel a sharp or burning pain on the outside of your leg just above the knee, the pain will worsen as you run further, there might be swelling on the outside of the knee, there will be pain on bending the knee, there is no pain when resting. Of course, resting will ease the pain, but if that is not possible due to commitments to upcoming races then massage can greatly help your pain along with PNF stretching, which I can assist with in my treatment; increasing the range of motion will give space and ease of movement to the hip and knee joints. Additionally it might be worth considering new trainers which support/correct your gait. Only in very sever cases will surgery be necessary.
