“Get Involved Group (GIG) Monday 16 June – Seafront Access
At our next meet-up, we will be talking all about Brighton & Hove seafront & beach.
Is it accessible for you?
Do you get down there as often as you would like? What stops you going?
What would make it better?
Come and join us! We are a friendly, informal group for people who are disabled, living with a long-term health (including mental health) condition, or neurodivergent in Brighton & Hove. Carers are very welcome too.

Parents and Carers Event -Impact of SEND Reforms on Black, Asian and Minoritised Disabled Children, Young People and their Families.

Include Me TOO have organised an important online event for parents and carers from our diverse communities regarding the SEND Reforms on impact on Black, Asian and minoritised disabled children, young people and their families.

Join them for a critical conversation on the impact of SEND Reforms on Black, Asian and minoritised disabled children, young people and their families

Discussions will cover:

-Do the SEND reforms risk disproportionately affecting Black, Asian and minoritised disabled children and young people?
-Why it is important to ensure our voices are heard and views considered within the SEND Reforms Proposal.

We cannot risk for Black, Asian and minoritised disabled children and young people and families to be further disadvantaged and left further behind.

We are delighted to announce the launch of Genes, Brains, and Breakthroughs — a new public awareness campaign from the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Oxford.

You can now watch a fantastic set of videos aimed not only to support affected families, but also to improve wider public understanding, reduce stigma, and encourage more inclusive conversations around neurodevelopmental disorders and therapeutic genomics.

The project was shaped directly by the experiences and questions of parents and carers, helping to ensure the resources are clear, compassionate, and meaningful for families navigating rare genetic conditions.

A huge thank you to all the families and advocacy groups who generously shared their experiences and expertise to make this project possible, including FamilieSCN2A, GRI-UK, SLC6A1-Connect-UK, and Unique.

Developed in collaboration with families, researchers, clinicians, and advocacy organisations, the campaign features a series of accessible animated videos designed to improve understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders, genetics, and emerging therapeutic approaches.

The campaign was funded by the University of Oxford’s Public and Community Engagement with Research (PCER) Fund and the MRC Centre of Research Excellence in Therapeutic Genomics.

This week for BBC week, BBC EastEnders shone a spotlight on caring for a person with a learning disability.

The storyline follows Will Mitchell as he attempts to juggle caring for his sister Janet who has Down Syndrome while supporting his family at home as his mother is recovering from a recent injury.

Amy, Digital Assistant at Mencap, said: "I think it’s good that TV programmes show that not everyone has a choice in being a carer. Things happen in life. Circumstances out of our control like an accident or illness, means anyone might have to step up for someone they’re close to and become a carer."

"But it’s also important the programmes show the reality of being a carer. It can be a tough role and take a lot out of you."
