Introductory Course to
Vestibular Assessment and Management

This is a practical course designed for qualified physiotherapists with little or no experience in vestibular conditions.

It will offer delegates the opportunity to gain an understanding of common vestibular pathologies such as BPPV, vestibular hypofunction, vestibular migraine and central conditions.

Delegates will learn how to assess a patient with dizzy symptoms and learn how to select and implement an appropriate management plan.

🎓 BPPV 1 course in Dundee
Another successful ACPIVR BPPV 1 course, delivered in Dundee! 🌀
It was fantastic to see such an enthusiastic group of physiotherapists and occupational therapists engaging with the course and exploring how recognising a vestibular contribution to dizziness and balance problems can make a real difference to assessment and management.

⚖️ Multifactorial Approach to Balance – ACPIVR Course

Today, ACPIVR was at Guy’s Hospital, London, for our Multifactorial Approach to Balance course, with a particular focus on the vestibular contributors to balance and postural control.

It was a highly practical day, combining clinical reasoning with hands-on assessment and treatment techniques.

Participants had the opportunity to practise oculomotor assessment, Head Impulse Testing, Dynamic Visual Acuity, Dix–Hallpike testing and Epley manoeuvres, alongside exploring how vestibular dysfunction can contribute to dizziness, imbalance and falls.

A day full of practical learning, clinical discussion and skills that can be taken directly into practice. 🧠👁️‍🗨️⚖️

Yesterday, Claire had the pleasure of delivering a bespoke vestibular rehabilitation course for the team at Milford Hospital.

⚖️ BALANCE AWARENESS WEEK 2026
13–19 September

Balance is something many of us take for granted — until it becomes difficult.

Balance Awareness Week was launched by VeDA (Vestibular Disorders Association) in 1997 to raise awareness of vestibular and balance disorders and the impact they can have on everyday life.

This Saturday, 19 September, ACPIVR is marking Balance Awareness Week with a dedicated Vestibular Balance Training Day for physiotherapists and healthcare professionals.

📍 In person at Guy’s Hospital, London
🕘 09:00–16:30

A full day combining theory, practical assessment and rehabilitation principles, including:

🔹 Ocular motor examination
🔹 Head Impulse Testing (HIT)
🔹 Dynamic Visual Acuity (DVA)
🔹 BPPV assessment – Dix-Hallpike testing
🔹 Habituation
🔹 Adaptation
🔹 Sensory integration & reweighting
🔹 Practical application of balance rehabilitation principles
🔹 Discussion, recap & Q&A

The practical sessions will give attendees the opportunity to rotate through different assessment and treatment stations and develop their understanding of how the vestibular, visual and somatosensory systems contribute to balance.

Because good balance assessment is about more than simply asking someone to stand on one leg.

It is about understanding why someone is unsteady — and using that information to guide appropriate rehabilitation. 🧠👁️👂🦶

A great way to finish Balance Awareness Week by continuing to learn, share knowledge and make vestibular disorders more visible. 💙
