😴 Better sleep starts with silence.

Whether it's a snoring partner, traffic outside, or a housemate's late-night noise — sound is one of the most common reasons we don't sleep well.

In fact, outside noise is cited as a top cause of night-time waking in UK sleep surveys, and The Sleep Charity has specifically called for ear plugs to be recommended as a practical, low-cost solution for people whose sleep is disrupted by noise pollution.

That's where our sleeping earplugs come in.

🔇 Block out disruptive noise — snoring, traffic, neighbours.
😌 Soft, low-profile design — comfortable enough to sleep on your side.
🌙 Wake up properly rested — less disturbance means better quality sleep.
♻️ Reusable and easy to clean — built for every night, not just travel.

Quiet isn't a luxury. It's the foundation of good sleep.

🏊 Protect your ears every time you swim

Regular water exposure is one of the most common causes of swimmer's ear (otitis externa) — an ear canal infection that affects around 1 in 10 people in the UK at some point in their lives, according to NHS Inform.

Our custom-fitted swimming earplugs create a secure, watertight seal to help keep water out of the ear canal — reducing the risk of infection while you swim, whether that's weekly lane sessions or open water swimming.

✅ Watertight protection — keeps water out where it matters
✅ Reduces infection risk — less moisture trapped in the ear canal
✅ Perfect, comfortable fit — moulded to your ears, not one-size-fits-all
✅ Reusable — built to last, season after season

🤔 How often should you have ear wax removed?

One of the most common questions we get is:

"Should I have my ears cleaned every 6 months?"

The answer is... it depends.

👂 Most people don't need regular ear wax removal because the ear is naturally self-cleaning.

However, some people are much more likely to develop troublesome wax build-up, including:

✔️ Hearing aid users✔️ People with narrow ear canals✔️ Those who regularly wear earbuds✔️ Older adults✔️ Anyone who naturally produces more ear wax

As a general guide:📅 Some people benefit from removal every 6 months📅 Others only need it once a year📅 Many people may go years without needing treatment

⚠️ If you're experiencing:• Muffled hearing• A blocked feeling• Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)• Ear discomfort• Hearing aid whistling
..it may be time to have your ears checked.

🚫 And remember... cotton buds don't remove ear wax — they usually push it deeper.

We've written a detailed guide explaining:✅ How often ear wax should be removed✅ What causes build-up✅ Who needs more regular ear checks✅ Tips to help prevent blocked ears

☀️ Can hot weather affect your ear wax? 👂

When temperatures rise, your ears can sometimes feel different. Here’s why:

🌡️ Ear wax can become softer and more fluid
Heat can soften ear wax, making it move more easily inside the ear canal. For some people, this can lead to a blocked or “full” feeling.

💦 More sweating + humidity = itchier ears
Warm, humid weather can increase moisture around the ear canal, which may make ears feel irritated or itchy.

🎧 Hearing aids and headphones can make a difference
Wearing hearing aids or in-ear headphones for long periods can reduce airflow and may contribute to ear wax building up and becoming trapped more easily.

✅ Tips to keep your ears comfortable this summer:
• Avoid putting cotton buds or objects into your ears — they can push wax deeper
• Keep ears dry after swimming or showering
• Clean hearing aids and earphones regularly
• Give your ears breaks from in-ear devices where possible
• If your ears feel blocked, itchy, or your hearing changes, consider getting them checked

If you’re struggling with blocked ears this summer, our team can help with safe ear wax removal using microsuction. 👂

☀️ Holiday booked? Don’t forget your ears before you fly ✈️

Blocked ears and earwax build-up can become much more noticeable during flights due to cabin pressure changes. This can lead to:
👂 Muffled hearing.
👂 Ear pressure or discomfort.
👂 Popping sensations.
👂 Temporary hearing reduction.

Earwax can also cause problems on holiday after swimming, as trapped water behind wax build-up may increase the risk of irritation or infection — potentially turning a relaxing break into an uncomfortable one.

If your ears already feel blocked, now is a good time to have them checked before travelling.

At Bristol Ear Health, we provide professional ear examinations and gentle microsuction earwax removal to help keep your ears feeling clear and comfortable for your trip.
