New for 2026: we’re expanding our support for translational eye research. 🔬

As part of our new Research Strategy, we're expanding out our Translational Research Award for projects at TRL 3-4, helping promising research access funding earlier in its journey towards patient benefit.

Researchers will be able to apply for up to £150,000 for 18-month projects, supporting earlier-stage concepts to develop towards TRL 5-7 and potentially progress to further translational funding.

By investing earlier, we want to help bridge the gap between scientific discovery and the development of new therapies, devices and diagnostics.

The new funding round opens this September. Full details and confirmed dates coming soon.

Research doesn’t stop at discovery.

For research to change lives, promising ideas need the support to move from the lab towards real-world treatments, diagnostics and technologies.

As Dr Nikolas Pontikos highlights, long-term investment in translational research is vital to making that happen.

At Sight Research UK, we’re committed to helping bridge that gap - backing innovative eye research with the potential to deliver meaningful impact for people affected by sight loss.

Garlic isn't just great for adding flavour – it could help support your eye health too. 🧄👀

Packed with antioxidants and beneficial compounds like allicin, garlic may help protect the eyes from oxidative stress and support long-term vision.

Research suggests that regularly including garlic as part of a healthy, balanced diet may help slow the progression of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

While no single food can prevent sight loss, eating a varied diet rich in fruit, vegetables and other nutrient-dense foods can help keep your eyes healthy.
