❝ Can you make me forget…? ❞
If you've had a bad experience it might seem desirable to completely forget it ever happened. But this isn't the best solution. If it feels like there is a hole in your memory your brain will worry away at that gap, trying to fill it in, often with other uncomfortable thoughts. Also, it is usually useful to keep the knowledge from that experience so you can either avoid or respond differently to a similar situation in the future.
The better solution is to remove the emotion attached to the experience. Then the memory doesn’t have the same impact on you and it's safe for you to remember. Then the memory can reduce in importance so you don't spend as much time thinking about it.
Hypnosis combined with EMDR and / or EFT is a really good way to help achieve this. People are often put off because they think that they will have to relive strong traumatic experiences over and over. But that isn't the case As the emotion comes up it is being reduced at the same time so it doesn't take hold of you.
