Really looking forward to coming back after the August break and the next class will be on Tuesday 1 September.

As the leaves are falling from the trees - so early this year - and returning to the earth, I thought we'd have a grounding practice this week. Focusing on our connection to the earth, we'll explore how that gives us strength and stability. We'll also look at how we can use the breath to develop a sense of calm and security.

Below we see Elijah connecting to the tree trunk beneath him making him strong and tall. 😉

Open to all levels, and any questions, message me.

Classes every Tuesday 5.45pm at the Greenway Centre

£10 per class or 5 class pass for £45 (class can be taken at time of choosing - no requirement to be consecutive classes)

As there are only a few regulars who are going to be around in August, I'm going to take a break for the month. But I'll be there this Tuesday 28 July and back on Tuesday 1 September.

This week I thought we'd focus on the upper body opening up the heart and strengthening the back.

This is an energising and uplifting practise and can help release tension as we work into the shoulders and neck.

Below we see Elijah drawing his shoulder blades together to open up his heart and feel uplifted.😉

In this week's practice we’re going to focus on the concepts of acceptance and gratitude.

In our everyday life, it’s very easy to be self-critical and focus on what we can’t do. Instead we will work with tuning into the body appreciating all that it can do, and finding gratitude for that.

Below we see Solomon feeling grateful for the shade and support of the tree 😉

In this week's practice I thought we'd focus on creating space - expanding physically into the space around us but allowing ourselves some mental space too.

Sometimes when we're a bit stressed or run down we can feel quite small and scrunched up. We'll use the breath and slow movements to open up, releasing tension and bringing physical expansion and mental clarity.

Below we see Solomon and Elijah enjoying the space and peace of the woods together 😉

In this week's practice, I thought we'd work with core and balance. The abdominal and lower back muscles provide the physical centre of gravity and stability that enable us to balance - holding us strong even when we wobble.

A strong core also supports our posture whether we're on the move or sitting down and helps prevent back pain.

Below we see Solomon using his core muscles to stay uprights in the strong wind 😉

With the solstice coming at the weekend, I thought we'd celebrate that with a practice based around sun salutations.

These engage all the major muscle groups encouraging both strength and flexibility. At the same time, working with the breath to move between postures helps to calm the mind and reduce stress.

Below we see Elijah saluting the sun as he stands proud in his little castle 😉

In this week's practice, I thought we'd focus on working into our hips and pelvis, opening up the joints and then actively releasing into the poses to help relieve tightness and improve our joint mobility.

Opening up our hips can improve our posture and help alleviate lower back pain, as well as releasing emotional stress.

Below we see Elijah letting it all go as he releases into his hips squatting to play with the seaweed 😉

Having focused on the upper body last week, I thought this week we'd move to the lower body. Our legs spend so much time supporting us that the muscles can become tight and a little inflexible. We'll work with poses that both stretch and strengthen the muscles in our legs and feet, helping to improve balance and stability.

Below we see Solomon and Elijah using the strength in their legs to support them as they play in the rockpools 😉

In this week's practice I thought we'd turn our attention to the upper body, working into the neck, shoulder and arms to open up our posture and help to release tension. Practising poses that work into these areas also helps to improve our breathing capacity allowing for deeper, fuller breaths that calm the nervous system.

Below we see Elijah using his upper body strength to reach up and look to the crest of the hill 😉

With the temperature due to rise, I thought in this week's practice we'd bring our focus to forward folds which have a cooling and calming effect helping to reduce anxiety.

On a physical level, they open up the backbody counteracting spinal compression and helping create length. They also help to stretch the hamstrings which can help to alleviate back pain. And as we release the head and neck it can help us unwind.

On an energetic level, forward folds are inward-looking helping us to focus on what's happening within us rather than the outside world.

Below we see Elijah releasing into a forward fold as he finished his journey down the slide
