🚨 New Public Access Bleed Kit Installed at the Ebdon Arms Pub, Weston-super-Mare 🚨

We are pleased to announce the installation of a new public access bleed control kit at:
πŸ“ Ebdon Arms Pub
πŸ“ Lilac Way, Wick St Lawrence, Weston-super-Mare, BS22 9WE
πŸ“Œ what3words: deep.draw.dock
πŸ”— https://w3w.co/deep.draw.dock

This new bleed kit has been installed alongside the site's existing legacy-funded public access defibrillator provided through Donate For Defib WsM Project, further strengthening the emergency provisions available to residents and visitors in the local community.

This installation has been made possible through continued collaboration with our friends at Donate4Defib in Weston-super-Mare, who continue to play a vital role in improving access to life-saving equipment across North Somerset and beyond.

We are also grateful to the Avon & Somerset Police & Crime Commissioner, whose donation of this bleed kit demonstrates their ongoing commitment to public safety and community resilience. By expanding access to emergency bleed control equipment, the PCC is helping to ensure that members of the public have the tools they need to respond effectively in those critical moments before emergency services arrive.

Catastrophic bleeding can claim a life within minutes. Having both a defibrillator and a bleed control kit available at the same location provides a more comprehensive emergency response resource, giving local people the opportunity to act quickly and potentially save a life.

A huge thank you to Donate4Defib, the Police and Crime Commissioner, and the team at the Ebdon Arms Pub for supporting this important initiative and helping to make Weston-super-Mare an even safer place for everyone.

πŸ’™ Together, we're building safer communities and helping save lives.

🚨 More Bleed kits at Fire stations 🚨

We are delighted to announce that last month Avon Fire & Rescue Service joined our growing Bleed Kit Partnership, helping to improve access to life-saving emergency equipment across our communities.

As part of this collaboration, publicly accessible bleed control kits have now been installed at:
πŸ“ Thornbury Fire Station – Outside the front doors
πŸ“ Paulton Fire Station – Outside the front doors
πŸ“ Chew Magna Fire Station – Outside the front doors
πŸ“ Radstock Fire Station – Outside the front doors

These join multiple others already installed at Fire stations across the region

These kits are strategically located to ensure that, in the event of a catastrophic bleed, members of the public can access vital equipment quickly and begin immediate intervention while emergency services are on their way.

This partnership with Avon Fire & Rescue Service marks another important step in expanding the network of publicly accessible bleed kits across the region. Fire stations are trusted community locations, making them ideal sites for housing this potentially life-saving equipment.

Every kit installed increases the chance of someone receiving critical treatment in those first few minutes following a serious injury. Together, we are building safer communities and ensuring that more people have access to the tools they need to act in an emergency.

A huge thank you to everyone at Avon Fire & Rescue Service for supporting this initiative and helping us make a difference where it matters most.

πŸ’™ Working together to save lives.

🩸🚨 How Can YOU Help Us? 🚨🩸

With 790 public access bleed kits installed across Avon and Somerset, we need your help to ensure they remain in place, fully stocked and ready to use should an emergency occur. ❀️

If you're out and about in your community and spot one of our bleed kit units, please take a moment to carry out a quick visual check:

βœ… Is the unit secure and still firmly attached to the wall, post or defibrillator cabinet?
βœ… Is the security tag still in place?
βœ… If the tag is missing, gently open the unit and check that the bleed kit pouch is still inside and appears intact.

πŸ“± You can then scan the QR code on the front of the unit to report any issues or defects to us, including:
πŸ”Ή Missing security tags
πŸ”Ή Missing bleed kit pouches
πŸ”Ή Damage to the cabinet or unit
πŸ”Ή Any other concerns

By taking just a few moments during your day, you can help us keep these lifesaving kits available, maintained and ready for use when every second counts. ⏱️🩸

Together, we can help ensure our communities remain prepared to respond to serious injuries and potentially save lives. πŸ€πŸ’™

Thank you for your support and for helping us protect communities across Avon and Somerset. 😊

πŸ©ΈπŸ“‹ Would You Know What To Do In A Bleeding Emergency? πŸ“‹πŸ©Έ

When someone is suffering from catastrophic bleeding, every second counts. Taking immediate action can make a lifesaving difference while emergency services are on their way. β€οΈπŸš‘

That's why HeartSafe has developed a Bleed Kit Patient Information Card, providing simple, easy-to-follow guidance on how to use the contents of a public access bleed kit in an emergency. The card covers key interventions, including applying direct pressure, using trauma dressings, wound packing and tourniquet application, while following advice from the Ambulance Service.

πŸ“– View the patient information card here:
πŸ‘‰ www.heartsafe.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/HeartSafe-BleedKit-dochsbk012-A4-Emailable.pdf

Importantly, this guidance has been designed and approved in conjunction with the NHS and South Western Ambulance Service (SWAST), helping to ensure the information is simple, effective and aligned with best practice. πŸ’™

Having access to a bleed kit is important, but knowing how to use it confidently can be just as valuable. 🩹⏱️

We encourage everyone to take a few minutes to familiarise themselves with the guidance and share it with family, friends, colleagues and community groups. You never know when this knowledge could help save a life. 🀝❀️

🩸❀️ 17 Lives Saved ❀️🩸

We are incredibly proud to share that 17 lives have now been saved through the use of public access bleed kits across Avon and Somerset. πŸš‘πŸ’™

With an impressive 790 bleed kits installed across the force area, communities have access to vital lifesaving equipment when every second counts. From busy town centres to rural locations, these kits are helping to provide immediate care in critical situations before emergency services arrive. ⏱️🩹

This achievement would not have been possible without the ongoing support of our fantastic partners, businesses, councils, charities and community groups who continue to fund, host and promote bleed kits throughout Avon and Somerset. 🀝

We also recognise that access to equipment is only part of the solution. That's why we've developed free training videos to help people understand how to use a bleed kit and build the confidence to act in an emergency. πŸ“Ήβ€οΈ

Seventeen lives saved is more than just a numberβ€”it's 17 people who were given a better chance because lifesaving equipment was available and someone was prepared to help. 🌟

Thank you to everyone who has supported this initiative and helped make our communities safer. Together, we are making a real difference. πŸ’™

🚨🩸 Public Access Bleed Kit Used During Serious Incident in Clevedon 🩸🚨

A public access bleed kit was recently used in Clevedon following an incident in which a person sustained a significant head injury after diving into shallow water.

Members of the public quickly located and used the bleed kit to provide immediate care before the arrival of HM Coastguard and South Western Ambulance Service crews. πŸš‘β±οΈ

HM Coastguard had been tasked to the casualty, and the swift actions of those at the scene helped deliver vital assistance during those critical first moments. ❀️

This incident highlights the importance of public access bleed kits and the role they can play in helping to manage serious injuries while emergency services are on their way. It also demonstrates how members of the public can make a real difference in an emergency when lifesaving equipment is available nearby. πŸ‘
We would like to thank everyone involved in assisting the casualty and commend their quick thinking and prompt actions under pressure. 🀝

Our thoughts are with the injured person, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery. πŸ’™
