🛡️ Keeping Staff Safe Policy🛡️
At 3 Trees, we believe that high-quality care begins with people feeling safe, respected and supported at work.
This week, we are highlighting our Keeping Staff Safe Response Policy, which sets out how we respond to disrespectful behaviour, aggression, violence and abuse towards our teams.
Working in social care can sometimes involve emotionally complex situations, particularly when supporting people experiencing distress, trauma, communication difficulties or behaviours that challenge. While we always seek to understand the reasons behind behaviour, we also maintain a clear position:
➡️ Abuse towards staff is never simply accepted as “part of the job.”
Our policy promotes a balanced and person-centred approach that protects both the people we support and the wellbeing of our workforce. This includes:
✔ Risk assessing potential aggression and violence
✔ Positive behaviour support and de-escalation approaches
✔ Lone working safeguards
✔ Clear reporting and investigation processes
✔ Ongoing staff training and emotional support
✔ Learning from incidents to improve safety and care planning
Importantly, our teams are trained to respond calmly, professionally and with dignity, always aiming to reduce escalation and maintain safe environments for everyone involved.
We also recognise the emotional impact that verbal abuse and aggression can have on care staff. Supporting our workforce through reflective conversations, follow-up support and ongoing training is an important part of maintaining a healthy and compassionate care culture.
At 3 Trees, safeguarding is not only about protecting the people we support, it is also about protecting the people who support them.
