Can you believe, it's been six months since we opened Dundridge Carers Cafe, back in March? So, this Thursday, we'll be celebrating the amazing community that's growing in this space, with hats off to Kate & Leanne, who offer their time and facilities free of charge, and to our incrdeble volunteers, who bring so much fun and compassion to the sessions, not forgetting the fabulous singers and speakers that have entertained and informed us along the way!
Greatest of all our appreciation, though, goes to our lovely guests, for sharing so generously your warmth and wisdom - this community thrives entirely because of you!
As always, great coffee, scrummy cake, the odd giggle and good conversation await! No entertainment this week - just the usual amount of love and laughter!
And if you're caring for a friend or family member living with dementia in central/east Bristol, we'd love to welcome you into our fabulous community! See poster for details...

We're super excited for our next Carers Café this Thursday, 2nd of July, when Josh, of Moreton Music, will be visiting for a good old sing-song! 🎤🎶
With many thanks to Leanne's lovely hubby, Adam Tucker for gifting this session to the Carers Café - all of our time and resources are provided free of charge to our carers and their friends and families and so generous offers like this are hugely appreciated!

What a well attended and hugely appreciated session we had at our last Carers Café, with the wonderful Sam Radford from Carer Support speaking to us about carers' rights and the support available when the people we care for are admitted to hospital.
Huge thanks to you for your wealth of knowledge and compassion, Sam! 💐🤩💕
Sam also is a celebrant, providing person centred ceremonies to mark all those precious milestones in life - please feel free to connect with her here... Sacred & Compassionate Ceremonies

With the focus on *Carers Week*, it came up in our last Carers Café, how may carers still are unaware of their right to a Carer's Assessment.
So we're super pleased that Sam Radford, from 'Carer Support' has kindly agreed to come along to our next Carers Café on 18/06/26,to tell us more about this important entitlement that carers have a right to by law.
A Carer's Assessment is not means tested and is available to anyone who provides unpaid care to a friend or family member due to illness or disability. It's not too lengthy or arduous, compared with other assessments and focuses on supporting a carer's physical, mental and emotional wellbeing,
For more information, including how to apply for an assessment, please come along to Dundridge Carers Café at Tuck n Hale Coffee Shop at Dundridge Park, on Thursday, 18th of June, from 2-4pm, where a warm welcome and lots of friendly chat also await!

In celebration of Carers' Week (8th to 16th of June), I'd like to thank everyone involved in establishing Dundridge Carers Café as a place of warmth and kindness for carers and their friends or families living with dementia in our community 🥰🥳💐
This year's theme is, "Building Carer Friendly Communities", and I think we're certainly achieving that, with some great conversation, the odd sing-song (occasionally very odd, when our much loved, pro singer, Marion, leaves us to our own devices😉!) and a font of shared knowledge and experience.
Our café is run entirely by volunteers, including the wonderful owners of Tuck n Hale Coffee Shop, who offer their time and space for free - and always with such good cheer!
I feel blessed to be part of such a strong and inclusive community and so very grateful to every single one of our volunteers, for their kindness and commitment - you are an amazing team of people to work with - thank you!

Being out in nature is known to be good for us, not just for exercise, but for exposure to sights, sounds, smells, textures - and even tastes - that tingle our senses & get our neurones firing! Our sense of smell in particular is associated with memory recall. This is because the olfactory centre (responsible for our sense of smell) in our brain sits very close to both the amygdala & the hippocampus, which together are strongly involved in retrieval of emotionally strong memories.
Add to the mix the cyclical magic of the seasons, and we have an ever changing smorgasborg of sensory delights to trigger a bounty of memories!
For me, the first smell of Hawthorn blossom teleports me back to my childhood, to playing out until dusk, making dens & coming home covered in cleavers…
What smells or sounds take you back to your childhood?
