How I Got into Nutritional Therapy

People often ask how I went from themed entertainment to nutritional therapy. The short answer? I didn't wake up one morning and decide to swap rollercoasters for broccoli.

It was actually a gradual shift. I loved working in the themed entertainment industry; the creativity, the people, the scale of the projects and the occasional opportunity to call visiting attractions "research." But I also saw first-hand the impact that long hours, deadlines and high-pressure environments can have on people's energy, focus and wellbeing.

Alongside this, I'd always had a passion for science and health. During the COVID-19 pandemic, after seeing several people close to me become seriously ill, I decided it was time to revisit that passion and retrain as a Nutritional Therapist. The more I learned, the more fascinated I became by how powerful nutrition and lifestyle choices can be in helping people feel and function at their best.

My company, Watson Your Plate, was born from that intersection of science, wellbeing and understanding what it's really like to work in demanding environments.

What I Love About Nutritional Therapy

What I love most about nutritional therapy is that it's not about perfection, green juices, or never eating cake again.

It's about helping people understand their bodies better and finding practical changes that make a genuine difference to how they feel. Whether that's improving energy, supporting digestion, managing stress or simply feeling more like themselves again, nutrition can be an incredibly powerful tool.

I love taking the science and translating it into something realistic and achievable; because if a health plan only works on a wellness retreat in the mountains, it's probably not going to survive a busy Tuesday afternoon.

My Ideal Client

My ideal client is someone who's ready to invest in their health but doesn't want another complicated set of rules to follow.

They're often busy people juggling work, family, social commitments and approximately 47 things on their to-do list. They may be struggling with low energy, digestive issues, stress, hormonal changes or simply feeling that they're not operating at their best.

Many have already tried searching online, spoken to friends, or even been told that their symptoms are "just part of getting older" or that everything looks "normal." They know something doesn't feel quite right but aren't sure who to ask next.

That's where I love the detective work. I take the time to really listen, investigate and look at the bigger picture. Rather than focusing on a single symptom, I explore a client's health history, lifestyle, diet and symptom patterns to understand what's really going on and identify the root causes that may be contributing to how they're feeling.

Most importantly, my ideal client is curious, open-minded and looking for sustainable solutions rather than quick fixes. I love helping people join the dots, understand their bodies better and make realistic changes that fit into real life, because real life rarely looks like an Instagram wellness reel, and most of us are just trying to get through a busy day with enough energy left to enjoy the evening.

We are here for you.

Here is the first of our practitioners journeys into their chosen therapy.

Ben Morphett MOst Registered Osteopath

How I got into osteopathy

After years of pushing my body to its limits as a professional motorcycle trials rider and surviving more crashes than I care to count, I suffered two pr*****ed discs in my lower back. I could not ride for ten months. In that time I saw an osteopath, and the experience changed everything. It was not just that it helped; it was the approach - the way a good osteopath looks at the whole picture rather than just the complaint in front of them. That sparked something in me to have a change of career. I went back to education, completed my Masters in Osteopathy, and have never looked back.

What I love about osteopathy

I think of the body as a jigsaw puzzle. Every patient that walks in brings a unique picture, and my job is to figure out how all the pieces fit together. It is not just to address whatever hurts right now, but to understand the root cause and the bigger story of how that person moves and functions, because a short-term fix does not usually address the underlying pattern. It is just delaying the inevitable. I am registered with the General Osteopathic Council a requirement under the Osteopaths Act 1993, which allows me to use the title osteopath.

Having eight years of clinical experience and a holistic approach, allows me to assess and give the body exactly what it needs, using a variety of soft tissue and joint mobilisation techniques.

My ideal patient

I tend to connect most with people who love staying active and do not like being held back. Whether you are a competitive athlete, enjoy keeping fit at weekends, or simply take pride in living an active life, I understand how frustrating it can be when pain or an injury gets in the way.

Having experienced that myself, I know it is about more than just treating the problem — it is about helping you get back to doing the things that matter to you. That shared understanding and motivation is what makes this work so rewarding for me as your practitioner.

Becoming a healthcare practitioner is never a decision made lightly. For many therapists, it was not their first career, but it was the one that felt most meaningful to them.

Healthcare work is deeply vocational. It comes from a genuine desire to help people move better, feel better, and regain confidence in themselves and their lives. Every therapist's journey is different, shaped by personal experiences, previous careers, and the moments that inspired them to take a new path into healthcare.

Over the coming weeks, you will be hearing from the therapists themselves. They will share how they arrived at their decision to retrain, what drew them to their particular therapy, what they love most about the work they do, and the kinds of patients they are most passionate about helping.

Because while therapies may differ, the motivation behind them is often the same: a real commitment to helping people live healthier, more active, and more fulfilling lives.

Arnica Montana : Leopards Bane, Mountain Daisy

Probably the most well known of all homeopathic remedies, it is widely
used in first aid for shock and injury.

The first remedy to think of when someone has an accident, which
promotes healing, controls bleeding and reduces swelling. It aids
with pains that are sore, bruised and worse for touch.
People needing this remedy will often say they are “ fine “, especially after an accident when they are in shock.

This is the first remedy to give after a head injury or a black eye, over exertion causing strained muscles or post surgery to
help speed up healing.

There are many other good first aid remedies but Arnica is always
the first one to think of; you will find it in pharmacies and some supermarkets in both tablet and cream forms. Keep some in your bag.

If you would like to learn how homeopathy can help you make an appointment to see Clare Norris our homeopath at Willow Therapy Centre.
