In addition to hypnotherapy, I now provide a person-centred and integrated counselling service. I work with adults, young people, and children aged 11+ and I offer a warm, compassionate, inclusive, and neuro-affirming practice. 🌿

Recently, a client who has been seeing me for counselling kindly provided me with this testimonial. It’s great to be in a position to help clients deal with problems at a deeper level, to really get to the heart of the matter, and the underlying issues that are contributing to their anxiety.

Working with this client we explored their presenting problem, which was relationship difficulties, the reason for those difficulties and how the client could regulate their own emotions in order to communicate more effectively with their partner about their needs and expectations for the relationship. Over the course of three months the client made changes to how they think about things and I introduced some psychological tools to assist with that process. They found they were able to approach problems in a much calmer way and get back to feeling much more like themselves – in control of their emotions. 💚

We are a neurodivergent household so last night I watched the controversial documentary on Channel 4 titled ‘The Great ADHD Myth?’ I like to keep an open mind when listening to other people’s point of view, weigh things up carefully and reach my own conclusion. In this instance, I agree entirely with the statement made by the Royal College of Psychiatrists (below).

The documentary was entirely one-sided and biased. It did not present a counterargument to the points raised by Max Pemberton and his colleagues. Moreover, the case study in the programme, a ten-year-old boy, needed to go back onto his ADHD medication after the documentary was made, thus undermining the premise that ADHD is a social construct and not a medical condition for which medication is helpful for some children and adults.

No, it’s not a mathematical puzzle! It’s what happened when a client began working with me 6 weeks ago. During our first session my client scaled her mood as being 2 out of 10. She was feeling low and lacking in motivation to do anything. 😔

Five sessions later and the client’s mood had improved to 9 out of 10 and remained there by the sixth session which she decided would be her final one. My door is always open if she wishes to return. Having rediscovered her motivation and ability to enjoy life again, I am confident that my client will be able to manage her mood more effectively in the future. I worked with her by providing psychoeducation and ensuring that she has some psychological tools to maintain good mental health. 🌿

This was achieved by using my skills and knowledge as a person-centred and integrative therapeutic counsellor. If you would like to find out more about how I could help you cope with low mood then just get in touch.

Yesterday, I cut some fresh flowers from my garden ready for my clients. Flowers make me feel happy; they lift my spirit and brighten my day. Just looking at them makes me feel good. 😌

I love gardening, connecting to nature, wildlife, and being outdoors. These are things that calm my mind and feed my soul. They’re good for our mental health because they activate our body’s natural healing systems (the parasympathetic nervous system and feel-good brain chemicals) which reduce feelings of stress, anxiety, and low mood.

This is the reason that so many mental health units and projects use gardening therapy for their patients/service users. I like to ensure that when clients come to see me, they are surrounded by nature and beautiful plants and flowers.

The flowers are from Coreopsis Early Sunrise. 🌼

It takes many small steps to rewire your brain and make positive changes in life. When trying to change something, get out of rut, shift your mood, break an old unwanted habit or develop a new habit, there will be times when you might find yourself taking two steps forward then one step backward, but if the overall momentum is forward, then you will get there eventually. Many small steps can lead to big changes, provided you are consistent and motivated. Try to be positive and hopeful. ✨

I am available to offer support, if you need it, to take small steps toward the desired changes in your life. 🌸

Are you feeling worse on anxiety medication during a heatwave? Perhaps you’re feeling unusually drained and tired, or experiencing an increased intolerance to the heat. My latest blog is about why some people who take antidepressant medication may find themselves struggling more than usual with effects of a heatwave. It explains how antidepressants can affect body temperature and what steps you can take to manage that. It’s a quick and easy 3-minute read:

It is often said that “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” As a carer and a therapist I know the truth of that saying. Yet, so many people, especially women, and especially carers, don’t seem to realise when it is necessary to stop and take a break. The result is burnout! Feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and tired all the time. 😔

I’ve been there. I’ve done it and I know what it’s like. You feel that you have to keep giving for everyone else, and you either forget about yourself or you put your own needs to one side, promising that you’ll take better care of yourself at some point in the future. But that point never arrives!

You absolutely have to make time to look after yourself first because unless you do you can’t take care of anyone else without feeling exhausted, irritable or resentful.
It’s okay to look after yourself first.
